and in his endless self-centered self-pitying whining and shrieking whenever things don't go his way

He seems technologically-gifted and emotionally-stunted

And it's obvious he's completely unable to take into account anyone else's point-of-view

At best, the Russians repeatedly used him as their unknowing stooge; but given his personality, it's more likely they manipulated him by playing into his enormous vanity

It's also possible, I suppose, that he's a conscious and deliberate Russian agent, but he seems too undisciplined to be an actual recruit: I think they'd want somebody they could control better

I can imagine crimes he could have committed that the US could legitimately prosecute but I don't know whether he actually committed such crimes

Back when the Manning story first broke, it seemed to me that the whole bugaboo could be a useful diversion from a more damaging spy operation -- and looking back, I think Snowden might have fit that bill, but I don't know that anyone could prove Assange was involved at that level

Oddly enough, at this point, his best bet might be extradition to Sweden

Beware the ideologue and the zealot. They are always dangerous. Occasionally we make the mistake of thinking "if they're fighting on our side .." Usually doesn't work out well.

Assange is a piece of work .. I haven't spent a lot of time try to analyze what his "deal" is .. but I suspect there is some sociopath in there somewhere.
