He seems technologically-gifted and emotionally-stunted
And it's obvious he's completely unable to take into account anyone else's point-of-view
At best, the Russians repeatedly used him as their unknowing stooge; but given his personality, it's more likely they manipulated him by playing into his enormous vanity
It's also possible, I suppose, that he's a conscious and deliberate Russian agent, but he seems too undisciplined to be an actual recruit: I think they'd want somebody they could control better
I can imagine crimes he could have committed that the US could legitimately prosecute but I don't know whether he actually committed such crimes
Back when the Manning story first broke, it seemed to me that the whole bugaboo could be a useful diversion from a more damaging spy operation -- and looking back, I think Snowden might have fit that bill, but I don't know that anyone could prove Assange was involved at that level
Oddly enough, at this point, his best bet might be extradition to Sweden

(11,300 posts)Beware the ideologue and the zealot. They are always dangerous. Occasionally we make the mistake of thinking "if they're fighting on our side .." Usually doesn't work out well.
Assange is a piece of work .. I haven't spent a lot of time try to analyze what his "deal" is .. but I suspect there is some sociopath in there somewhere.
