I have to agree, however, I also think that enough information is known to start an impeachment inquiry.

(6,224 posts)I can give you something more divisive: letting the country continue going to hell.
Or are you saying that not doing something divisive is more important that upholding your oath of office?

(2,541 posts)Can be divisive but the country is already pretty divided. Certainly a concern but definitely not a gater from upholding the oath of office to defend the Constitution and enforce the rule of law.

(3,433 posts)It's singular purpose is to hold the president to account for high crimes and misdemeanors. It is the stopgap to prevent corruption and despotism from occurring within the highest office of our country.
I still have faith that Pelosi and the Democrat leadership understand what they are doing and have a plan in place to hold the president accountable. At some point however action must be taken. That will be the moment of truth because even if the Senate will not support impeachment, the house has an obligation to impeach even if it is politically inconvenient and detrimental. Our constitution means nothing if it is not enforced. If the president can truly do whatever he wants without repercussion then we have installed a monarch.

And this fucking treasonous Senate isn't going to to SHIT to stop him from wagging the dog. You see they're trying to cast blame on HILLARY/Camp for the Steele Dossier's existence

The job here is oversight. Whether it is divisive is beside the point.

(6,137 posts)when trying to impeach. It is a fact based process. You are literally required to impeach him per constitution. Its hard to predict the effects of it but not impeaching will have serious long term consequences once precedent is set.

(24,122 posts)but, to give the Democratic base confidence that the Party will fight the Rethugs on every level. Who gives a shit whether impeachment will divide the country... NEWS ALERT: WE'RE ALREADY DIVIDED!!! Nothing would fire up the base like impeaching that POS illegally occupying the White House... I'm more afraid of what NOT impeaching that fuck will do to our chances in 2020!!

If the plan is to vote him out in 2020, let's make damned sure we do.

(18,837 posts)...the 20 candidates who are going to take the debate stage know that, Speaker Pelosi knows that...
...and as much as I hate cliches, it really has come down to that moment in "The Untouchables" where, in addressing Al Capone, Sean Connery asks Kevin Costner "What are you prepared to do about it?"
I don't think for a second that we should allow Trump to have us chasing our tails in 2020, spending our entire time "defending" ourselves against him, deflecting his attacks,
Every elected official in the Democratic party got where they are right now by waging some form of a campaign. Some were more contentious than others. Some faced unconscionable attacks on every level.
NO ONE has waged a campaign that comes within a country mile of what we're about to face in 2020. It really is unprecedented. Comparisons can be drawn, but not of this magnitude, not on this level, We're going up against someone who lacks a conscience, who is totally self-serving, who has no respect for decorum or the law.
We need to prepare for it and act accordingly.

(18,837 posts)Yes, it has become painful to hear cautionary words about us "becoming" divided.
I became "divided" the morning after election day in 2016. I have my laptop next to the bed. I followed the results until I fell asleep. When I woke up the next morning, it was to a screen declaring Trump as the winner.
I didn't have to "become" divided after that. It was my moment of "division."

(17,984 posts)She didn't say she wasn't contemplating it. She said we have to handle it with care. And I agree with that.
StarfishSaver
(18,486 posts)I'm starting to think it doesn't matter what she says. It will be twisted or ignored. She could call for impeachment tomorrow and I'm sure some of the people blasting her now for supposedly blocking impeachment (which, of course, she isn't doing), won't give her a second's worth of credit for doing what they say they want her to do, but will turn on a dime and start attacking her for something else.

(14,488 posts)like racism, it will rear its ugly head big-time with right-wing heads exploding. The lines of division have been hard-set for quite some time, IMO.
I feel a lot of independents and a few Republicans would drift our way and support an impeachment inquiry.
Many decent people of all political stripes are sick of this criminal enterprise. They will be even more sick when inflation gets worse and their taxes go up or if we go into a full-blown recession, or get entangled in another endless Middle East war.
