Trump accuses New York Times of 'virtual act of Treason' with Russia report
President Trump late Saturday ramped up his attacks against The New York Times, accusing the newspaper of committing a "virtual act of treason" over its report about the U.S. increasing cyberattacks on Russia's electric power grid.
"Do you believe that the Failing New York Times just did a story stating that the United States is substantially increasing Cyber Attacks on Russia," Trump tweeted. "This is a virtual act of Treason by a once great paper so desperate for a story, any story, even if bad for our Country."
Trump claimed in a separate tweet that the story was "not true!"
"Anything goes with our Corrupt News Media today," he added. "They will do, or say, whatever it takes, with not even the slightest thought of consequence! These are true cowards and without doubt, THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE!"

The Times earlier Saturday published a new report about the United States' efforts to penetrate Russia's power grid. The Times, citing current and former government officials, noted that the actions are a warning to Moscow on how the Trump administration is using new authorities to unleash cyber tools in an aggressive manner.
The officials said that the U.S. was deploying computer code within Russia's grid and other targets. The moves are reportedly a part of a broader initiative to combat Russia's hacking in the 2018 midterm elections.
It has gotten far, far more aggressive over the past year, one senior intelligence official told the Times. We are doing things at a scale that we never contemplated a few years ago.

(22,077 posts)actions obviously ... I say this for he surprisingly knows another 'big' word!
Without evidence, and just popping off that the NYT is a treasonous organization because they reported on something that I'm sure that they researched in depth before reporting on.
Idiot is still the idiot that he is, and proves on a daily basis just how incompetent he is, how corrupt he and his cronies are, and just plain crass and gross on top of it.

Every word he says is true. But the words just describe him, rather than the people he attacks.
Other than that, all true. Odd.

(70,447 posts)On April 18, 2019, a redacted copy of Special Counsel Robert Muellers Report On The Investigation Into Russian Interference In The 2016 Presidential Election (Mueller Report) was released to the public. The Mueller report builds on the U.S. intelligence communitys conclusion that there were two campaigns to elect Donald Trump one run by Trump and one run by the Russian government. The Mueller report clearly identified collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia, despite repeated denials from Trump and many of his senior advisers and close associates that there were any connections between the two campaigns.
A total of 272 contacts between Trumps team and Russia-linked operatives have been identified, including at least 38 meetings. And we know that at least 33 high-ranking campaign officials and Trump advisers were aware of contacts with Russia-linked operatives during the campaign and transition, including Trump himself. None of these contacts were ever reported to the proper authorities. Instead, the Trump team tried to cover up every single one of them.

Being told about the Trump Tower/Russia meeting before and afterwards
Trump called for Russia to hack HRC and the DNC
Trump talked about Russian help in getting him elected
Trump said he was fine with Russian help in the future

(10,140 posts)And now he's pretending like he did. But he's angry about being kept in the dark over issues involving his puppet master. The NYT maybe a part of the attack. If you don't know there are weapons pointed at you, the weapons lose some of their deterrent affect.

(14,488 posts)that power grids are now fair game. Perhaps learning from Russia, a rouge actor could possibly bring the U.S. economy to its knees overnight by shutting sectors of the grid during peak load (summer hot weather). Vulnerable people would die.
What's to prevent these techniques and trigger codes from being leaked from either side?
Trump does nothing but escalate tensions with major adversaries, placing us at higher risk of a major confrontation....
And, I hope the NYT can sue him for defamation.

(951 posts)While defending Russia to the core, wholeheartedly. I wish the president of the United States defended Americans with such fervor.
Why don't his idiot followers realize he will never bad mouth Russia, never come up with disparaging nicknames for them, never once accuse them of any form of attack, never "punch back harder" as is his only way when dealing with us?
He's a fucking traitor piece of shit filth. Garbage mystery slime wearing a bad suit.

(2,611 posts)According to the story in the Times, they cleared the content with the subject agencies. Of course, theirs no way DJT could *know* that, as he never talks to those folks for fear they might tell him whats actually going on...

(302 posts)In the story, the Times made a point of noting: "Officials at the National Security Council also declined to comment but said they had no national security concerns about the details of The New York Timess reporting about the targeting of the Russian grid, perhaps an indication that some of the intrusions were intended to be noticed by the Russians."
They were careful, they didn't print anything without checking to see if it was a security risk. The NSC clearly wanted the story out there, both as a warning to the Russians, and probably a warning to Agent Orange that if he kills the program, they will make sure people know it was killed.
