So now he's casting the possibility that he'll refuse to leave even in 2024 as something "the people" might demand...

.....news is that at the end of 6 years, after America has been made GREAT again and I leave the beautiful White House (do you think the people would demand that I stay longer? KEEP AMERICA GREAT), both of these horrible papers will quickly go out of business & be forever gone!

(48,968 posts)term, plus four after re-election.
He's been talking in quite a few speeches about six more years in his presidency, and this is one more suggestion that he thinks he should stay on past the two-term limit.

(70,490 posts)"The Enemy of the People" is straight out of Josef Stalin's mouth.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2018/aug/03/trump-enemy-of-the-people-meaning-history
Donald Trumps repeated use of the phrase enemies of the people in his attacks on the media has stoked anger and fear not only because of general concerns that he is demonising a pillar of American democracy, but because of its echoes of totaliariansim.
The phrase has old roots, even appearing in a Shakespeare play, but it became well known in the 20th century when it was adopted by dictators from Stalin to Mao, and Nazi propagandists, to justify their murderous purges of millions.
Stalin was perhaps most closely associated with the phrase, which successor Nikita Khrushchev specifically denounced in a landmark speech after Stalins death, which he used to begin dismantling the dictators poisonous legacy.
snip
In fact the phrase was first deployed in a modern political sense during the French Revolution, allied with a form of another favourite Trump phrase, fake news, according to the New York Times.

(7,430 posts)Trumpy WISHES he had that kind of power. And let's remember, he'll do whatever he can get away with to WIN. If everyone else is a loser, what's the difference between a live loser and a dead loser? To him, nothing. He doesn't care.

(205,220 posts)I visited Soviet Georgia many years ago and was gobsmacked at how many statues of Stalin there were there - so I asked why. And I was told that Georgians still loved Stalin because he killed so many Russians. The anti Russian feeling was palpable since they were forced back then to be part of the USSR, despite the cultural differences, even a different language.

up and for that treasonous bastard, let 'em.

(7,430 posts)Were it up to them, Trumpy would be full-on dictator, because that's what Trumpy wants. Whatever he wants is fine with the GOP. They have his back. Now they're in full-speed-ahead lying mode because they have to defend and/or support Trumpy's lies. All of them. This means that they're all complicit in Trumpy's attempt to turn his presidency into a dictatorship. It doesn't matter to them because they want to maintain power at any cost.

(70,490 posts)See Mitch McConnell.
Growing up I either knew in person a few or knew about some wonderful people
who were Republicans. Our next door neighbor in a middle class neighborhood in
PA was the county DA and his brother was Ray Shafer, Gov. of PA and a republican
too you would never meet a better man in your life but he would have no home in
the GOP today.
Again we our in dangerous times and we must expose these treasonous bastards
to the world. They win by cheating, billions in dark money, and washing millions
of Americans in disinformation after which those people think that snow is not cold,
water is not wet, and that it doesn't get dark at night.
The Democratic Party should move on from trying to get certain voters support. If
owning a gun, gay marriage, or climate change isn't real then those voters are gone
however we are the majority and we have to focus on election integrity because ever
since HAVA (help america vote act) the red state shift in the vote has been massive
but it does not reflect the changes in the demographics and how the majority of Americans
feel about the issues.

I don't believe it ever crossed his miniscule mind that he'd be investigated this much.
My guess is that if he can't figure out some way to stay on, he'll want Ivanka or Moron Jr. to run in 2024.

The only ones that would want him to stay on are his brain dead base, and they are less than 30% of the country, if that. I also think by this time next year, more people are going to think twice about voting for him, even some of those who "did" vote for him last time.
Right now he is just being an ass looking for attention.

(58,647 posts)I imagine some people will, someday, demand that Trump stay in office past the end of his term. Hell, if we vote him out in 2020, we'll probably hear this same bullshit from the Trumplodytes, and I would expect violence, too.

(43,049 posts)he suggested (demanded?) that he have some special dispensation to run for a third term since he was so necessary to the city's healing and rebuilding after 9/11. He didn't mention that he hid in a bunker while rescuers were dying in the ruins, but he didn't have to. Everyone knew.
The good citizens of New York wisely told him to suck it, just as they told him to bugger off when he tried to run for Senate and Governor. They then elected Bloomberg.
