California poll: Warren surges to second, Harris falls to fourth

Interesting to say the least.

California poll: Warren surges to second, Harris falls to fourth

Elizabeth Warren is threatening Joe Bidenís front-runner standing in California, and Kamala Harris is showing signs of weakness in her delegate-rich home state, according to a new poll.

A new UC Berkeley-Los Angeles Times poll found Biden leading with 22% of likely Democratic primary voters; followed by Warren and Sanders, who are at 18% and 17%, respectively.

Harris (13%) and South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg (10%) are the only other 2020 presidential contenders to exceed 3% in the survey, which was directed by pollster Mark DiCamillo, who for years led the venerable Field Poll.

Warrenís surge into a tie with Sanders aligns with other recent polls that show her cutting into Sandersí support with liberal voters. But itís particularly notable in the Super Tuesday state of California, where Sanders has set up camp since his 2016 loss to Hillary Clinton, and where his team has pointed to structural advantages that in mere months have seemed to dissipate.

An April Quinnipiac University poll of the California primary had Biden at 26% among Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters, followed by Sanders at 18% and Harris at 17%. Warren and Buttigieg were at 7%.

1. What in the world? Why is Harris not doing better? (n/t)

2. Yeah, I would like to know that as well.

What happened recently to break her momentum?

5. Harris isn't polling very well on DU, either, so there aren't many threads.

Maybe she'll shine during the debates.

3. Warren will continue to improve her standings in CA and elsewhere, I have no doubt

Bernie and Biden will decline as Warren improves. Looks like she's taking some of Harris's support too.

4. I've been a "fan" of Warren since the Obama days...

and am not surprised she's picking up steam overall. But California sort of surprised me.

6. Yeah, I don't get Harris . . .

falling behind in her home state. Governor Newsom has endorsed her and he brings the party machine along with him. She should be way out ahead.

I like Elizabeth Warren but I don't get these numbers. Time will tell, I guess.

7. Warren or Sanders will be the nominee

If I were a betting man, I would be placing some good money on Warren right about now.
