Costco shooting

... Initially, Corona police said on Friday that two men were in an argument when one pulled out a weapon and fatally shot the other. They said they had detained the shooter inside the store and then taken him to a hospital after he said he was injured.

Later, however, police said no one was in custody and that there had not been an arrest in the case.

On Saturday evening, police revealed more details about the circumstances leading up to the shooting. Corona police Officer Tobias Kouroubacalis said an off-duty LAPD officer was shopping at Costco with his family when he was attacked. He said the officer was holding his child at the time but that the child was not injured during the incident.

The attack on the officer, which was called unprovoked, resulted in him firing his weapon, striking the suspected assailant and two of his family members ...

CORONA (CBSLA) — There was no word yet on whether the off-duty LAPD officer suspected of killing one man and wounding two others at a Corona Costco will face charges.

Corona police say 32-year-old Kenneth French from Riverside allegedly assaulted the unidentified officer inside the store on Friday night. The two people wounded were relatives of French.

Both remained in critical condition on Sunday ...

Corona police say they’re working with the Riverside County District Attorney’s office to determine the facts of the case. An LAPD use-of-force team is conducting its own investigation.

According to the official police statement, the officer opened fire on French after being assaulted by the man while the cop was holding his daughter. Witnesses in the store said they heard and saw two men arguing before one of them (the off-duty cop) fired a gun at least six to seven times ...

... Lt. Jeff Edwards of the Corona police told reporters just after the incident that police believed the shooting resulted from an argument.

"From my understanding, from some people we talked to, there was apparently an argument inside," Edwards said. "Some type of argument and ensued into a gun shot" ...

Just yet another poor innocent cop, minding his own business, getting attacked in yet another indiscriminate and unprovoked assault by a crazed assailant, forcing this poor police officer to try and kill the attacker and everyone around him.
