Puerto Rico was about to pass a 'religious freedom' law but Ricky Martin stepped in & shut it down.

After the pop singer denounced the bill, the Governor has asked the legislature to pull his own bill from consideration.

By Gwendolyn Smith Friday, June 14, 2019

Ricardo Rosselló, the Governor of Puerto Rico, pushed for a “Religious freedom” bill for the Commonwealth, and it seemed destined to pass.

The bill, which would allow discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity based on one’s religious beliefs, was approved by the Puerto Rico House of Representatives on Tuesday.

Martin spoke out against HB 2069, publishing an open letter on Thursday.

“House Bill 2069, filed at the request of Governor Ricardo Rosselló and promoted by Representative Charbonier, achieves nothing more than opening the doors to hatred towards anyone who doesn’t share the same ideology, who simply belong to the LGBTT community, or who don’t have the same color skin, amidst many other discriminatory measures,” said Martin on his official website.

Added Martin, “As a defender of human rights and a member of the LGBTT community, I am vehemently opposed to the proposed measure imposed upon us under the guise of religious freedom, which degrades us as a society and projects us to the world as a backwards country, unwilling to honor the basic constitutional right of individuality.”

“This movement is not representative of the Puerto Rico that we all love, defend and hold so dear,” concluded the singer. “We call on the Senate, the House and Governor Ricardo Rosselló to reject this effort, which is an open door to hatred and discrimination.”

Mere hours after Martin’s pleas, Governor Rosselló changed his tune on HB 2069, asking legislators to halt HB 2069, as well as a bill involving conversion therapy.

… does his Fathers crimes have to do with him? I applaud Mr. Martin for taking a stand myself. It seems all you can do is snark about that.

4. First of all, as my post clearly indicated I was talking about Rosello. Not Martin. And yes

I will snark all the fuck I want about the Rosello crime family. Given how much damage they've done to my country. Similar to the Bushes here. And Ricky Rosello is vastly unqualified for the position he occupies.

right about "...sins of the father..." etc. But my dislike for his son goes back to the way one of my classmates (an over-privileged dick) and Ricky Rossello (the son, now Governor) got in a car, plastered, and basically killed an entire family while driving under the influence. I didn't know Rossello. But I knew the guy who was with him. I believe he might be Pedro Rossello's (former Governor) godson. Anyway, an innocent family died because these 2 douches decided to drive, being in no condition. To add insult to injury. The judge needed to fast track the trial because the kids needed to make it back for the start of their semester and no one saw a day in jail. They did their damnest to bury it an pretend nothing happened.

Here's article for the aids fund. There were a bunch of other scandals during his administration which was incredibly corrupt. But lucky him that by the time things made their way to the suprem court. He had a chance to appoint the "right" judges. And he got off scot free.

hope junior turns out better than his dad. Because right now we need better. But watching how he made it through the campaign with out offering one single detail doesn't inspire much hope. Like Bush here in the mainland. Old man Rossello's damage took a toll and we didn't have a good successor to help fix it. And they're by any means the only corrupt ones either. But it's a combination of incompetence, corruption and voters bring easily misled which has brought us here.

But reading your post made me want to know about what you were referring to. Too many times people will just blindly jump on anyones bandwagon if it sounds good without knowing the whole story. A good example is how popular Avenatti became here, even though, to me, it was obvious that he was a slimeball. But no one wanted to hear it

work interferes with my posting.

That's a good example. I honestly had no idea what to make of that guy personally I never posted a single word (that I can recall) either pro or con. I just didn't know what to make of him. I thought he was sort of charismatic. In retrospect it now seems in a sociopathic sort of way. But the posts saying he should run for the presidency were silly as shit.

.

I'm sick of this shit.

The Democrats help out a bunch of RW states and territories, because it's the right thing to do. For that, we get shit on and have our funding delayed when Dem states need assistance by those same RW states and their representatives.

Here we are, trying to get Puerto Rico assistance, statehood, and other perks, and they return the favor by trying to pass religious liberty bills into law. They are revealing themselves to be RW in behavior, and do we really need another RW state to fight against getting laws passed?

Just my off-the-cuff rant.

Clear sign that there’s a problem with a government when a celebrity can exert this much influence this quickly over a piece of legislation.
