Some Republicans I know are hoping for another candidate.

Spent the weekend with my Republican family members and was surprised to hear that they are out of love with Trump. Mostly it's because they don't trust him with international affairs. They are longing for a better qualified candidate and wish that Jeb Bush or John Kasich would run again. They live in the Orlando area.

I don't know what this means exactly, but thought it was interesting.

I wonder if anyone has conducted a poll asking Republican voters who their favored candidate would be, given a variety of other candidates.

Guess what, you bumblefucks...so are the rest of us who damnwell knew better ...and told you so.

No sympathy from me. They want to feel bad about what they did and have that actually MATTER, they can support impeachment and when Yertle makes sure that doesn't work either, they can go vote a straight Democratic Ticket to make up for this SIN AGAINST DEMOCRACY they supported.

And nothing short of that, will get my attention.

A cultural shift would be so great. Smoking shift was, in retrospect, huge. Hardly see it on most streets in DC.

Anti republicanism among the young has been reported on DU.

Just because HRC wasn't an acceptable choice for them doesn't mean that a future Democratic candidate can't win their votes. Some voters are registered Independents.

My gut says that they will vote for any republican that doesn't seem too insane. I firmly believe the republican voting block would breathe a collective sigh of relief and get behind voting for Pence in a heartbeat. We don't need him and his evangelical craziness anymore than we need trump and his.

Bottom line, republicans like voting for garbage individuals.

Make the Republicans go into the election with the criminals drapes over their shoulders. At every level. Throw in the R's you throw in the syndicate. Hammer the crap out of them all.

Added bonus, stops Pence from doing much damage if by some miracle the Senate convicts.

And yes I know it screws up the last minute run for those currently in office. Stuck actually doing your job while getting paid. My heart bleeds, really.

Republicans will either immediately vote to aquit, which makes them look complicit. Or, they'll take time to let the hearings happen which will drag out all the dirt. They will then not convict and look complicit, or they convict and force him out and the whole top looks like shut for letting him remain president for so long.

The gop is fading away right in front of our eyes. The longer Trump remains in office the more dead the party is. I know they keep surviving scandals somehow and that's why we have to shoot it, stake it, throw holy water on it, burn it and then sweep what's left into the noonday sun. The longer it drags on the better.

They could come up with a more viable candidate that could swing Independent's and some tax-cut-loving Dems to their side. We really need to focus more on taking back the Senate and holding on to the House. It won't do much good if Trump is gone but McConnell is still there. Mitch did the damage BEFORE Trump even decided to run.

They will suck it up and vote for Trump in the General, because to them, no democrat can lead (though historically for the last 117 years, democrats have been better on the economy AND foreign policy, not to mention a lot of other policy areas).

They never learn.

They need to see that there are other choices in their party. Right now, I think most of them think that it is Trump or a Democrat. If we can get enough of them to see that there are other choices on their side, it may just break the spell that Trump has over them. It's time for the sane (well, relatively) Republicans to reclaim the party. It may just encourage a new guard.

I know Weld won't win, but if he can shake things up enough, it will help us.

when they go to the voting booths. if the buffoon is still the candidate, they will still vote for him, no matter how bad they know he is, they are fanatics. At least that has been my experience, they are so fanatical that they rather be dead than vote for a Democrat.

We all know Trump is an irredeemable fuck-up, so you don't have to point it out all the time. But when he does something particularly egregious (and he will), gently point it out to your family members. You don't have be rude or condescending or smug, but something along the lines of "What was that about?" or "Did you see what Trump said about X?" Bring them along slowly and gently. Reinforce their misgivings with some positivity so they have room to change their minds without feeling stampeded.
