The one positive for him at this point is to double-down on the "peacemaker" role, fire Bolton, try and get the fundies to throw some "blessed are" cover towards him, and talk up the "I want to get us out of stupid wars" position, but that's about all that I see...

It might get him some points with the isolationist wing of the Republicans.

Other than the reality it would cost him some serious donor cash and further grief from the establishment Republicans, I'm somewhat surprised he hasn't gone full isolationist and started blaming the Israelis and Arabs with the "dragging our country into their ancient, internecine conflict" rhetoric ... it was certainly a talking point the isolationists used during the debate over intervention in the Balkans after the collapse of Yugoslavia, and there are probably more voters among the isolationist Republicans who would buy it.
