Oregon senator walkout: 'patriot' groups vow to protect Republicans who fled state

Members of rightwing “patriot movement” groups have vowed to protect Republican senators in Oregon who have walked out of the state legislature in order to try and block the passage of climate legislation.

The move by the state senators – some of whom are believed to have fled to neighboring Idaho – was aimed at denying Democrats a quorum for passing landmark climate legislation. The proposed new Oregon law resembles California’s sweeping new “cap and trade” legislation.

After Oregon’s governor authorized state police to bring the 11 Republican senators back to the state house rightwing groups have said they will rally to their defense – raising the prospect of a potentially dangerous confrontation.

Figures aligned with the “patriot movement” group of organizations offered assistance to the rogue senators, though it was not immediately clear if this cooperation was welcomed by them.

On Facebook, Paul Luhrs, who claimed to be the Linn County lead for the Oregon III%, a patriot movement group, announced that the organization has “vowed to provide security, transportation and refuge for those senators in need”.

Luhrs added, “It has come to our knowledge that nearly all senators are currently safe in Idaho with no chance of extradition.”

Oh wait, no. They left to protest an unfair redistricting plan which gave even more power to Republicans. And I'm pretty sure none of them threatened to kill any state troopers that might be sent after them.

The armed guards of the Sovereign Citizen movement are big talkers who will fold when confronted by LEAs. The worst case would be if the state police are intimidated and allow this intimidation to persist. As for the Republican senators, THIS is the result of an election. Republican senators are having a tantrum. They simply can't admit the fact that they're in the clear minority by POPULAR VOTE. They are weakening their case for garnering more votes in the next election. And that clown Brian Boquist needs therapy, not a microphone. He's in chronic PTSD mode. The III%ers are not a patriot group. They're seditionists, and they're in the game to grab federal land for their own in some cockamamie notion that big corporations will NOT rush in and push them out of the way if/when the federal land becomes open for public sale. I'd venture a guess that they all watched Mad Max movies and believe that it's real.

When Texas Democrats walked out on some particularly egregious Right-Wing legislation, we didn’t need a bunch of gun-waving looney-tunes to protect our persons.

Cluck. Cluck.

Quit paying them. Whether it hurts them or not just stop paying them for the days they are gone and move more legislation you want but they don't so that when they come back and make the quorum it passes too.
