Neo-Nazi Who Murdered Heather Heyer in Charlottesville Asks Judge For 'Mercy'

In court documents filed Friday, the avowed neo-Nazi who murdered Heather Heyer in Charlottesville, Virginia two years ago asked a federal court judge for mercy and a punishment shorter than a life sentence.

James Alex Fields Jr., 22, was convicted of a state first-degree murder charge in December. Jurors recommended life in prison, plus 419 years for intentionally mowing down Heather Heyer with his car during the white nationalist “Unite the Right” rally in August 2017. Fields also pleaded guilty to federal hate crime charges in March.

Of course he wants leniency - never met a Nazi yet who was not a snivelling coward under all the bravado

Instead of life + 419 years, I would be comfortable with life + 350 years.

He should receive the same gracious accommodations that are being provided to the migrants at the border ...

Concrete floor ... standing room only ... an aluminum blanket ... no soap ... no toothbrush

Eta ... and bright lights on 24/7

Fields will be provided soap and a toothbrush. Unlike the children of immigrants seeking asylum who are being held in cages.

I was in Charlottesville yesterday and walked on Honorary Heather Heyer Way. The tribute to she and the cause is very moving. I may revisit on my way back home from this trip and post a photo if it doesn't feel macabre.

He should receive forgiveness, but not necessarily mercy. But for spectators like me, yelling the equivalent of "lock him up!" makes me no better than them.

Move on. Ignoring people who seek attention is the greatest punishment of all.

Maybe we should look at him in a different light. lol.

Long story short, Fields chose his path. If he gets out due to leniency he will no doubt find the next Heather Heyer to murder. Bye Jimmy. Have a nice life in prison.

The prosecutors’ memo focused on years of Fields’s documented racism and anti-Semitic behavior, which they claimed included keeping a picture of Adolf Hitler on his bedside table. They also said Fields was recorded on a jail phone making disparaging remarks about Heyer’s mother as recently as last month.

This tells me he has no remorse for the act, just self-pity for being caught and prosecuted for it.

I have no sympathy for him.

As usual. He's not such a big man when he's not driving a couple of thousand pounds of metal confronting human bodies on foot.

On humanitarian grounds, I'd be fine with taking 2, or even 3 hundred years off his sentence.

Life plus 119 years. There. Now he should be happy.
