(11,949 posts)And playing in France? Now I bet the crowd is 40% Americans and I will be pulling for them.
But it is a tall order to win this game.
The European clubs have been dumping tons of money into female football. The games have been very fun to watch.

(3,944 posts)All 8 round of 16 matches featured a European side vs a non-European side. 7 of them were won by the Europeans. The exception was the US over Spain.
And the US looked very ordinary against Spain, perhaps because they were looking ahead to the quarterfinals. In any case, FRA-USA will be epic.

(9,895 posts)One of my favorite players (and people) on an exceptional team of American women that are amazing across the board.
I spent the entirety of yesterday's match with Spain hiding out in my office streaming the live webcast of the game so I could see it...probably have to do the same on Friday as well!
Megan Rapinoe delivered the pass on the greatest last second score I have ever seen (years ago...2011 WWC I believe in the quarterfinal against Brazil) on her volley to Abby Wambach...great delivery, clutch finish, awesome players...still gets me everytime I see it!

Anyone have a link?

(9,895 posts)Rapinoe does not sing the anthem nor place her hand over her heart...FIFA does not allow on-field kneeling during any anthems, so she had to stop taking a knee (I believe...)
I should have figured that out.

(4,450 posts)Maybe the greatest goal in US footballing history, men or women? I think so.

(9,895 posts)That was 2010 South Africa World Cup, but it was group stage to get to the knock-out round and the header from Wambach was in the quarters and prevented the earliest exit in WWC history for the USWNT...
This was special though:
And the collected reactions are priceless:

(11,949 posts)In the mens World Cup in Brazil Germany decimated the home team Brazil 8-1 in front of a crying home audience. Every single goal was celebrated and this was the team with veteran players used to playing and winning at the highest levels.
Germany never called off the dogs, and never stoped trying to score. It is perhaps the most devastating beat down in World Cup history. Brazil was favored to win.
I didnt read one single article about how Germany acted poorly or should have laid off the Brazilians.
I ask you, whats the difference? In my opinion, aggressive women make too many people nervous.
If you bring a shitty team to the World Cup expect to get rolled. No one has ever debated that in mens football.

(864 posts)So sick of hearing criticism of the women's team (several World Cups under the belt) and to add insult to injury---they're woefully underpaid compared to the men's team which didn't even qualify into the World Cup and has never really advanced.
GulfCoast66
(11,949 posts)They would dominate the news. And if the beat down a shitty team 13-0 it would be held up as a sign of their domination.
Maybe the mens team will actually make the World Cup next time.
And as an aside...I am not soccer fanatic. But it looks to me like the US women are way more technically astute than the US men. Their passes actually go where they want them to.
But you know, we 53 year old southern white guys are just biased that way!
