Why do rightwingers spew their crap as if everyone thinks like them?

We pull into camp here at Redfish Lake area of Idaho.
We meet the campground host couple.

As our conversation drifts to where we've been we spoke of Bend, OR as a potentially nice place to live.

The female host then spoke up, "Oh, I would never live in Oregon." My spouse asked, "why not?"
To which she replied, "Too many liberals live there and that goes for Washington and California too."

I then said, "Definitely don't go to California."...😂

I guess we asked for that in a way but it was still bold for her to say that considering our California plates and my ponytail.

This isn't the first time rightwingers have talked to us as if their political beliefs were gospel and shared by all.

Freaky.

Regardless of how they get their "news" they are told the same thing opening to night. Strangely it's victim AND triumph at the same time.

I clearly remember people saying that shit to me in the 1970s. They assumed I was just like them. The only difference was they used to cover their mouths and whisper it. Nowadays they feel free and proud to say it out loud.

8. As others have said, it is about exposure...
Wed Jun 26, 2019, 05:54 PM

If you think back to the study on media that was done back during the Bush or maybe early Obama administrations where they found that people who were more liberal tended to get their information from a minimum of 6 sources while conservatives indicated that over 70% received their information from one source, Fox News. It explained 2 things, the reason why Fox was consistently the most watched cable channel for politics, and why conservatives appear so confident that their views were widespread.

The thing that consistently shows up when discussing how to convert people from conservative to liberal is exposure to different points of view. It is true which is why conservatives hate universities. People of different racial and ethnic backgrounds together exploring information from differing viewpoints. The right calls it indoctrination because they lack self awareness and a sense of irony.

Conservatives think they know what liberals think but the reality is that they are rarely exposed to actual liberals and they rarely listen to what liberals and leftists actually say without massive spin from the right wing forums on which they depend for information. They don't hear Nancy Pelosi, they get snippets which are already pre-framed by Hannity or Fox and Friends, or the other taking heads at Fox.

One of the common things we see here on DU when Trump says something stupid (which is pretty much always) is that people ask for the context. Instead of just jumping in blindly (which unfortunately does happen here) people will usually post the whole speech or ask for the whole recording or full transcript. Conservatives seem to stop at whatever confirms their bias and attribute it confidently without question.

The conservative mind thinks their opinions and worldview are the only true opinions and anything outside that is nonsense to them and wrong. If you seem to connect with them on a personal level like you did with that lady, they will freely share their opinions because they automatically think you think like they do. That mindset rules everything in their lives even their religious views. They talk like their beliefs are gospel because to them they are

12. Welcome to Idaho

Seriously, welcome to Idaho.

Though Redfish and Stanley Basin can be crowded this time of year, with Idaho's mountains, desert, whitewater, fewer people (that's been changing) and some of the wildest country in the lower 48, it has much to offer, as I hope you're discovering.

The summer heat nor smoke from wildland fires hasn't settled in just yet. Red-state politics and opinionated chats like the one you had with the host come with the territory. But for me, that can be balanced out by just being here.

So set your receptor grids to level 10 and your ignore shields to stun and have fun!

I saw a big flag flying on a truck bed. And get this...it was half and half. A flag with the Stars & Strips and the Confederate flag together.

Then, while riding a beautiful bike path north of Ketchum a rider came by with a "Trump 2016" hat.
I didn't say anything but it crossed my mind to ask, "Is it the children dying after they are separated from their families into cages or his raping that attracts you to him?".

Well done Shred, you've observed two species of Idaho's well-known genera, amans pseudopatriae fictus.

The first, a. vexillum magna is less common in that montane/sub-alpine locale but ubiquitous elsewhere, especially in the north part of the state. Characterized by their florid courtship displays from their overly large, American built utility vehicles which usually emit diesel brown and black to the less common light gray to blue, noxious gasses. Sometimes dangerous but always unpredictable, it is best to observe these from a safe distance.

The second, a. rubrum galerum is smaller, much more common and an invasive species believed to have originated from the south and east of the U.S. three or four years ago. Widely distributed, it can be found throughout Idaho and identified by it's unique, squeaky to booming call: maga-MAGA. An effort is being made to control this species with definitive results expected in approximately a year and half. Though much safer to approach than a. vexillum magna, they do off-gas somewhat and caution is advised as contact can be unpredictable with their characteristic foamy mouth parts and flailing limbs.

I was at a party last year and we started talking about football, and one of my neighbors out loud said that he hated the 49ers, no other opinions on football whatsoever. He hated the 49ers because... *DRUM ROLL* Colin Kaepernick disrespected the flag and the troops! And when pointed out what bullshit that was, he went off on a 20 minute tirade of Fox News talking points, and by the end of the rant people had had enough of his nonsense.

That would be:

1.) People who think exactly like they do

and

2.) Libbruls.

Now, they can't tell you what a "liberal" is, what a liberal wants, thinks, or feels, or even looks like, but they know that they HATE "Liberals," and a world without them would be so nice, Jesus would come back down and run unopposed for president.
