Donald Trump joked with Russian President Vladimir Putin that they should “get rid” of journalists as they met in public at the G-20 conference of world leaders in Osaka, Japan. Indicating toward the journalists in the room, Trump said, “Get rid of them. Fake news is a great term, isn’t it? You don’t have this problem in Russia but we do.” Putin responded, in English: “We also have. It’s the same.” It has been reported that 21 journalists have been killed in Russia since Putin came to power in March 2000. Trump’s remarks come a year to the day that a gunman killed five people at the Annapolis Capital-Gazette in Maryland.

He’s supposed to be representing the United States at the G-20 summit in Japan, but Donald Trump still found time to send out a self-absorbed tweet about Thursday night’s Democratic debate. Trump criticized the Democratic candidates for each promising that their health-care proposals would cover people living in the country illegally. “All Democrats just raised their hands for giving millions of illegal aliens unlimited health care. How about taking care of American Citizens first!?” Trump wrote, claiming that he was now guaranteed to be re-elected in 2020: “That’s the end of that race!” Trump also mocked the Democrats during a meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, telling her that he’d rather be “spending time with you than watching the debate.”
