About Michael Cohen in Prison.. CNN:

https://www.cnn.com/2019/06/06/politics/michael-cohen-jail-otisville/index.html

Friday June 7.

Yes, I think this has been up before, but that 4th sentence struck me. No pressure and totally relaxed. No Trump, no daily lies, no bulls**t with media, no contracts to change, and living quietly. (and exercising and plying tennis)
_________________________________________________________________________________________

"He's pleasantly surprised that everyone has been very cordial and have actually been coming up offering him advice about prison life and offering him to come eat lunch with them," a source close to Cohen said.

Inmates have approached Cohen asking him for legal advice and wanting to spend downtime with him. They've quizzed Cohen about what it was like working for Trump and about the payments to actress Stormy Daniels, a second source says

Another source says Cohen is working out every day, including playing tennis, and has lost 20 pounds. That source says Cohen is being "flooded" with letters of support. "The mail is unbelievable," that source told CNN.

Cohen is "more relaxed than he has ever been," the source said, adding that Cohen is also working on writing a book.

Cohen is connected to the Russian mob via his father in law. No inmate with any common sense is going to mess with him.

They still use chain gangs down there. I wouldn't mind seeing Cohen and that goddamned Michael Fucking Flynn chained together and forced to chop cotton in the heat.

I am disheartened. It's not that I'm big on punishment. But these motherfuckers have looted the country, and they're gonna get away with it. Those who get 'punished' will only get a slap on the wrist after the misery and devastation they have all either directly or indirectly caused.

One of the things that someone with legal training can do is to help fellow inmates file grievances against the staff. Sometimes, the beefs are legit, but a lot of the time, they're trying to gum up the system. If Cohen is helping them with that, it's no wonder that he's safe and sound.

10. Jeffrey Epstein and Michael Cohen both grew up in the same area of Long Island

They are both from Jewish families and they grew up in the Coney Island/Brighton Beach area of Long Island. It's the same community where many of the Jewish Russian immigrants settled in the 1950's and 60's. It's Ground Zero for the Russian Mob. It seems that both of these men would have been comfortable dealing with Russian criminals, laundering money and doing legal favors of one sort or another.

Neither Cohen nor Epstein knew each other growing up, but they both became close to Chump for different reasons. The coincidences are amazing. I'm not suggesting that Michael Cohen had anything to do with Epstein's sex business/obsession, but both men have an overwhelming connection to Russian criminals. I believe we're going to learn that Epstein is secretly in the money laundering and kompromat profession. There's still a lot we don't know.

... also Julie K. Brown of the Miami Herald. I think Ward is more interested in Epstein's financial activities, but Brown seems to be following the story from the standpoint of the victims.

No writer has mentioned the remarkable similarities between Epstein and Cohen. Cohen has family connections to the Russian mob, but I'm not sure whether Epstein does.

Edited to add: Vicky Ward wrote the 2003 article about Epstein for Vanity Fair, not the New Yorker.

Ianal, I'm not licensed to practice in your jurisdiction, you might want to check with your counsel, etc.

Plus, he's likely not charging for it...

exactly what a non-lawyer can do varies by jurisdiction, but generally you can't claim you're a lawyer if you're not, and you can't represent someone else in court if you're not. beyond that, it depends.

i can very likely make a legal suggestion to a friend and say "you might want to ask a lawyer about that".

i can probably also say, "hey, here's a clause in a contract i signed once in a similar situation, you might want to include it in your contract. again, please check with a lawyer."

not charging a fee isn't a guarantee that you're in the clear, but it certainly bolsters the claim that you're not practicing law and not holding yourself out as a lawyer; whereas charging a fee for the advice or drafting becomes more problematic.
