We were one of the groups that had a vigil last night.

We had a vigil in a suburb south of Chicago.

To be frank, I expected no more than 10-15 people, but when I arrived at the location at 7.45, there were already 30 people there.

By 8.15, we had over 60 people there.

The reaction of the bystanders was almost universally supportive, except for one person, white and male, who screamed at us as he drove passed.

We stayed for over an hour, and 10 people asked to join our social justice group.

After the vigil, we had a meditation circle and talked about the situation.

To all who participated, at our location and all over the country, physically, and in spirit only, thank you. Times like this remind me, and should remind all of us, that Trump, as repellant as he is, will pass.

1. I attended a vigil in

the small community of Dixon, IL, the hometown of St. Ronnie.

I was surprised that about forty people showed up. Five were from my rural community that is nearby. I invited six, and five showed up.

We each held up a letter (or a space between words) that spelled out, "No Kids in Cages!" We had a dog cage with two dolls in it.

The reaction from the passing traffic was positive, with three exceptions. One asshole took off his MAGA hat and waved it at us. One woman shook her head and scowled. A man driving a new, immaculate with pickup with a Trump/Pence sticker in the back window, pulled over. He challenged our group leader, who spoke politely to him. He said words to the effect that if we didn't like it, we should send them back. After he had his say, he pealed out.

I was pleased by the many, many positive reactions. And the turnout of attendees was even more pleasant!

And the reaction of those we can assume are Trump supporters is sad, but not surprising.

3. it sounds like a great idea

especially if you can get them going around Halloween, THIS year, then by 2020, just a week before election, they would be a destination event.

4. There was also one today in Chicago.

And I agree, this needs to be a regular occurrence, as well as pressuring our Congress members to act.

5. My neighbors and I lit candles and pointed flashlights

up to the sky and took pictures to share on social media to spread the word. It was one of the suggestions from the organizers. The local news showed the turnout at the vigil at the Mexico/US Border and there were about 500 people...I was impressed. Over 700 cities is a great show of numbers. Now let's see what they do next and we'll keep the pressure on them and not let up for a second.

6. And we must also pressure our Congress members.

One of our group tasks will be getting a meeting with our own, "problem solver group" Congressman.

I have called mine a couple of times since the last time she went to the detention camps (the border is next to her district) in a year. We must keep the pressure on them or else they lose interest or get distracted with the endless of BS from this admin.
