Joe Kennedy III will run for Barney Frank's congressional seat

Joseph P. Kennedy III (D) "is taking the final steps to launch a run for Congress this year, hoping to succeed Rep. Barney Frank (D-MA) who chose to retire rather than run in his reconfigured district," the Boston Globe reports.

"Kennedy is opening an exploratory committee for the seat, a legal step that will allow him to raise money immediately... Kennedy is scheduled to meet this afternoon with his current boss... to inform him he will be leaving his prosecutor's job to become a political candidate."

“We wage war, pass skewed tax breaks, and expand benefits by spendthrift borrowing, saddling the next generation of Americans with unsustainable debt,’’ Kennedy said. “Then when it comes time to restoring fiscal sanity to our budget, we see the middle class and the poor take the hit while the wealthy get more tax breaks. A great candidate.

"Raised in Marshfield, Brighton, and Cambridge, Kennedy is a former Peace Corps volunteer and a graduate of Stanford University and Harvard Law School. Before joining the Middlesex prosecutor’s office, he worked for 2 1/2 years as prosecutor on Cape Cod."

I get nervous when "families" occupy our government....but this is one that has a pretty damned good reputation.

I hope, should he run and win, that he continues that tradition. God only knows, we need all the help we can get in Congress.

You will NEVER convince me that Jack and Bobby were random acts of murder and I'm not even all that sure about Robert, Jr. We all know of the threats made over the years to Teddy but I always had the feeling they wouldn't dare push their chances that far.

I love them for their public idealism and the way they fought for fair play to average citizens but I'll never get over fearing for their lives when they enter politics. If 'they' don't get a Kennedy with bullets they eventually get them with judgement and Fox News type media smear campaigns.

I miss the Kennedy clan dearly, and nobody loves 'a ginger' more than I -especially a handsome one, but it takes a special kind of bravery for anyone left in that family to get into politics again.
