It will begin on Feb 4th, after "Up with Chris Hayes." She joked on twitter that she's thinking of calling it "Uppity with Melissa."
Here's the NY Times article:
Continuing its makeover of the weekend mornings, MSNBC will add a talk show next month that will be hosted by Melissa Harris-Perry, a Tulane University professor of political science.
The untitled program will begin on Feb. 4 and will be shown on Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until noon, MSNBC announced on Thursday.
MSNBC has pretty firmly established itself as a political channel on the weekdays, but it has lagged on the weekends. So it has been gradually replacing its weekend morning newscasts with political conversations. In September it started a roundtable show called Up, hosted by Chris Hayes, which has been well-received and has impressed people inside MSNBC with its political I.Q. <...>
Right now Up is shown on Saturdays from 7 to 9 a.m. and on Sundays from 8 to 10 a.m. Once Ms. Harris-Perrys show starts the channels schedule will be streamlined, with Up showing from 8 to 10 a.m. on both days. <...>
Congrats, MHP! Can't wait for more must-see weekend news and analysis....

(14,559 posts)I've been very impressed with Chris Hayes. A two hour format allows real analysis of issues beyond sound bites and talking points. Even such serious shows as MTP have to cover 4 or more topics in the 40 minutes of program time. Up! limits the topics and does real depth on them.
MHP is going to be as good as Chris with a dash of RM for spice.

(37,326 posts)during the weekends. She USED to be on for 5 hours Sat. and 4 hours Sun. Now with Chris Hayes and Melissa Harris-Perry taking over, I won't have to change over to CNN after Hayes. MHP and Hayes are both from The Nation magazine. And they're both VERY intelligent.

(20,805 posts)....rather than getting frustrated that someone you don't like is constantly on the idiot's lantern, you could just switch it off....that's what i find myself doing more and more these days...the talking heads on teevee talk too much bullshit, chatter and nonsense that it just becomes annoying background 'white noise'....
I like to turn it off and read a book....calms my nerves no end...
I didn't mean it as a criticism of you personally....
