Just received a call from Social Security

I just picked up a voicemail telling me my SS account was suspended because of suspicious activity, and that I should press 1 to find out about the case. Ha!

The stupid giveaway? Caller ID said the caller was "Anonymous."

I get that one every day.

They don't say they're SS, they use a generic term. That way its nice and legal-like.

Well, I don't know if they care about this or not, but I always report numbers to FTC. Additionally, I also believe that sharing the numbers on complaint board websites will be a better option for us, like some reports that I find at https://www.whycall.me/210-503-9954.html. More people will be able to identify these scammers easily.

My SS account and bank cards (some I don't even own) were suspended, and I was debited $399.00 for auto-renewal of my computer services.

looking for a person with my same name. They wanted my Social Security number to verify it was not me. I told them to pound sand, and leave me alone. A few months later I was at my home in North Carolina & got the same call from this collection agency still looking for this deadbeat. I hope they never found her.

He screamed obscenities back, in a Russian accent. It was truly comical "No, f**k YOU!!" he said. Nice mouth for a government agent.

But I have to be careful because one time, the person calling was from Medicare. The REAL Medicare (it was a legit call related to my job). Fortunately, that time I restrained myself.

Just keep asking that. If they do give you a fake name, ask them to spell it for you, please. If they get huffy (and they will), ask to speak to their supervisor, please.

Variants include spelling back their name with an appropriate insult. For example, if they say their name is Donaldson, spell Dumbshit back to them when they try to spell Donaldson.

Once they hang up in disgust, add the number to your blocked list and delete all logs of the call. Since neither cell service providers nor the government are going to do shit about this ongoing, colossal waste of time and money, you might as well have a little fun with it if you can.

*click*

That stops them for a few days, but it doesn't solve the problem.

And it's not some sort of existential problem over which we have no control. We can have laws and enforcement. Other people in other countries don't put up with that shit.

Are any candidates listening?

Wimpy regulations, because telcoms don't want to take effective action.
