Easy. Not Expensive. Certain to Ultimately Help Decrease Gun Casualties.

But does anyone want to make book on whether Moscow Mitch and/or President Windrip will do it?

It requires no earth-shaking changes to any gun laws or Constitutional Amendments. Takes no ones firearms away. Imposes no restrictions or regulations.

Yes, it takes some investment- at the moment, $50 million. In Federal budget terms, that's not even pocket change, it's pocket lint.

Yes, it would need more eventually. But not a lot more. We're not talking build-a-military-aircraft costs here, or even fund-a-stupid-ass-wall.

And in the long run, it might be the most effective path to reducing the casualties connected to mass shooting incidents.

It's really, really simple:

Let the CDC research gun violence.

Some of you are saying "Wait, what? Don't they already?"

ummmm.... no. Not since 1996 when the NRA bought "The Dickey Amendment" to that year's omnibus spending bill, officially requiring that "none of the funds made available for injury prevention and control at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) may be used to advocate or promote gun control."

The NRA was well aware that any credible research or systematic information gathering about gun violence would end up fueling calls for firearms regulation. So we couldn't have any of that.

Now the House of Representatives has passed an extremely modest $50 million allocation-- $25 million to the CDC, $25 million to the National Institutes of Health-- for the explicit purpose of researching how to save lives by researching how to reduce gun-related suicides, the links between domestic violence and gun violence, what types of safe storage are effective, and identifying risk factors involved in gun purchases that might end up being used for murder.

Will Moscow Mitch allow it through the Senate?

Will President Windrip sign it?

Any takers?

pessimistically,
Bright

1. You want to throw science at a problem? You want smart people to look into possible solutions?

Are you some kind of socialist? The Holy Bible doesn't say anything about scientists solving problems. You just have to close your eyes, pray real loud, and have faith that you won't see or hear anything more about it.

2. How exactly is the CDC research "Certain to Ultimately Help Decrease Gun Casualties."?

What are they going to find out that we don't already know?
