"What if we went back through all the family trees and just pulled out anyone who was a product of rape or incest? Would there be any population of the world left if we did that?" he said in Urbandale, Iowa. "Considering all the wars and all the rapes and pillages that happened throughout all these different nations, I know that I can't say that I was not a part of a product of that."
The Kiron Republican was discussing his defense of not allowing exceptions for rape and incest in the anti-abortion legislation he tried to pass in Congress. Republican leadership had prevented bills he sponsored on banning abortions from advancing through the House, despite GOP support for the measures, King said.
Just because a conception happened in bad circumstances doesn't mean the result isn't a person, King, who is Catholic, argued.

(13,392 posts)and incest you have first hand knowledge of. It has to be a hell of a lot more than is in the public record.

(7,947 posts)"Rape and incest might SEEM bad to you now, girls... But think of future generations!"
One thing the #MeToo twitter thread made me realize is how many women's lives were derailed by assault-- they had fears of going out after that, their relationships broke up, they dropped out of school-- everything got harder. And many men don't realize that-- it's not a single event, but for many women, it's a destructive experience that makes the rest of life that much more difficult.
(And when I'm really cynical, I think, "Well, that's convenient for the great majority of men who AREN'T abusers, maybe, but unwittingly benefit from lesser competition from women who won't take the physical and emotional risks they might have had they not been assaulted."
So this turd-- and that's unfair to turds, I know-- is telling women (and girls) to suck it up because rape and incest are actually good for the nation?
Maybe he's going to recommend Epstein for a posthumous medal.

(61,675 posts)It's not just the PTSD. It is how PTSD affects the rest of our lives, usually making the current part of our lives a heaping pile of shit. Difficulty trusting, poor sleep yielding poor decision making, leading to career problems. Time helps heal, but sometimes the damage done in lost time is irrevocable.

In other words, we bear the cost and burden of producing and raising the human capital needed to provide workers/consumers/taxpayers, and get practically zero compensation (The Price of Motherhood by Ann Crittenden).

(146,189 posts)Lot's daughters got Daddy drunk and got impregnated by him, so there's support for incest. As for rape, God told his people to slaughter all those who "pisseth against the wall," but to take the virgins for themselves. One assumes they wouldn't submit willingly, so there's the rape side of things.
Of course, there's Adam and Eve and their offspring - every last one of them incestuous by necessity. I mean, Eve was a female clone from Adam's rib, according to the story, and then Cain slew Abel and was sent away, so Adam and Eve must have gotten it on some more to make more replacements, all brothers and sisters, since those two started out as the only humans on the planet, if you are to believe Genesis. So, without incest, none of use would exist, or something like that.
So, according to the scriptures, Steve King is absolutely right. Now, does that give him the right to commit incest and rape? I'd like to ask him about that face-to-face. Maybe he thinks so...
Of course, according to reality, none of that is true, so...
