I would think that, at this stage of the election season, Trump would be pretty sure of his base and would be moderating his behavior slightly to attract other voters. Instead, he is getting worse, I wonder if he's getting information from the field that his base is slowly, quietly eroding and that his "people", instead of voting for a Dem, might not vote at all.

(24,355 posts)then something is going right for the rest of us. For several weeks, we were hearing how Trump wants to make 2020 a "base election" and that he wasn't really even going to try to pull in any other people. However, it's becoming clear that this base isn't going to be enough for him to win and if he's bleeding out his base too, then that would be a catastrophe for him. Still have a long way to go to November 2020 and I won't breathe easy until the race for the Presidency is called for our Democratic candidate, whoever he-or she- is.

(82,849 posts)What I find interesting is the near obsession in the political media for Democrats (and the more liberal, the more pronounced it is) to "reach out" and "cross the aisle" to appeal to the knuckle-dragging nitwits of North Bumblefuck. The next article you see urging Republican candidates to moderate their message to appeal to more voters will be the first one you've ever seen.
