Like a fox -- how a TV channel is tearing America apart

A news network that, instead of providing actual news, gives white, conservative viewers the news they want to hear

A little over 20 years ago, Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes concocted a profitable way to tap into the white supremacist ideology still bubbling below America’s surface.

They started a “news” network that, instead of providing actual news, gave white, conservative viewers the news they wanted to hear: that they, their families, and their values were under attack by minorities, gays, women, liberals, socialists, Muslims, atheists, the media, etc. — and therefore their biases were justified.

It’s been a lucrative strategy. However, just making a buck wasn’t enough for them. They also wanted to shape the fortunes of the country they were dividing. Here, too, they had tremendous success.

And that is what is getting lost amid the outcry over Donald Trump’s latest round of racist tweets: The US president is often just parroting what he sees on Fox News.* His racism and distorted view of reality are a direct reflection of what this conservative network decides to put on the air.

While regimes throughout history have used propaganda outlets to get the word out and spread their ideology, in the US it is now very much a two-way street. Fox News is both a tool and a puppeteer, manipulating events directly and indirectly. In many cases, the network drives the conservative agenda with its programming. Then, when Trump and his allies pick up on it, Fox News gives them a platform to broadcast that agenda with no fear of criticism or being fact-checked.

for the anger that is so prevalent now. They use techniques to keep people angry and agitated - what I call the adrenalin of hate. It gives otherwise listless people energy and the mistaken belief they are smart.

we were outraged to find out that the Darth Cheney administration provided Faux Noise its talking points every morning, i.e. the birth of "state TV."

Now, we've truly come full circle: Once again we have yet another idiotic Rethuglican "president" (and yes, Dubb-ya was truly the village idiot of his time), but now state TV is calling the shots by not just feeding, but full-on mainlining talking points into the Oval Office.

The day Murdoch finally gives up the ghost of his rotting, racist carcass is the day I will literally dance in the street and probably shoot off a few fireworks as well.

He was asked whether Fox "News" would be do objective reporting, considering that while he worked in the Nixon White House, he wanted a Nixon Administration news channel to counter CBS (then in the role of today's MSNBC) and their goal of factual reporting.

Ailes answered only: "we have an agenda."

True then, true now, and that agenda has nothing to do with truth or objectivity.

If we can connect them to violent acts it should be possible to ban the media on the grounds of inciting violence.

Rightwing internet sites hurt too.

The principal problem in the world today is that Rightwing have figured out how to buy power in democracies with hateful propaganda.

The nearly 2,000 yr old writings in the book of Revelation speaks of a multi-headed beast that spews great blasphemies, and the bears the number 666. Did Murdoch seek dark spiritual forces to help nurture, build and exploit the hypocrisy of the American Christian?

F is the 6th letter of the alphabet
O is the 15th and 1+5 = 6
X is the 24th and 2+4 = 6

FOX news should be referred to as "666 news" or "The Beast's Mouthpiece"

IMO FOX and their echo chambers are doing a whole lot more that tearing America apart.

Other than having a couple of not in the tank for the right hosts, not in prime time, they are right wing shills.....and minus this right wing media no Trump, likely no Dubya. All made possible by Reagan axing the Fairness Doctrine.
