Whenever We Get Single-Payer Healthcare,

One of the things I'd very much like to see would be for the Federal Government to subsidize medical education for Physicians and Nurses. Instead of the horrendous, costly university medical schools, I'd like to see them all be nationalized, with admission open to anyone capable of completing medical school who wanted to become doctors and nurses. I'd also like to see special incentives for students who agreed to become family practice physicians or internists and who would also agree to work for a certain period of time in an area short of medical care.

Make a medical education possible for anyone with the drive and intellect required. A full ride program, completely color blind and gender blind.

I think that's a terrific idea for a single-payer healthcare system. Imagine all the talented people who would love to be physicians who are simply unable to do so getting to do the job they yearn to do. What a benefit to the society that would be.

There are some scholarships open via the public health department path. Also, the military can help, but I'm not sure how that works, exactly.

I'd like to stay as far away as possible. I don't deal well with guns as I was a refugee to the US, but I am just happy I am able to make it through my undergrad. My tuition is around 4500 a semester (tuition only in-state University of Iowa), and I honestly am so thankful I was able to get scholarships to cover it. I always did have that fear of a mishap during a semester would cause me to lose it.

I know there are options for loans, but that is one of my biggest annoyances. People go to school and take out huge loans all the time. Once they graduated they have to find a job, shut up, and obey every command from their boss. The usually the boss is somehow related to the creditors of your loan. So we are forced to be puppets at work because if you lose your job, you cannot pay back your loan. This way we do not receive any options in work. We have to find a job as soon as we graduate and hope that we do not get ill and fired because everything is coupled and related in someway. The corporations/banks have us in a strangle hold as soon as we turn 18.

Just my thoughts. How do you feel about student loans/high prices of education outside of the medical field?

I don't know of a single person who doesn't love Medicare who has it. People will definitely love single-payer.

I remember my surprise when I was in the USAF in the late 1960s. If you felt ill or had a health concern, you showed up at sick call, where you were seen, diagnosed, and treated. If you needed surgery, you got that surgery. If you needed glasses, you got them. If you had a toothache, it got taken care of.

Yes, you had to wait for your turn in the clinic, just like you do in a civilian urgent care clinic. But, you got seen and you got taken care of.

After a full enlistment, I became a fan of socialized medicine, or single payer, or whatever you want to call it. Everyone should be able to show up at the clinic, get seen, get diagnosed, and get the treatment needed for all their health concerns. Just like that.

the "sheep" that vote on "oh s/he's a good Christian... I think I'll vote on that just support all of his/her ideas" are not happy with it. It is amazing how many of these people go from hating it until they get a chance to rely on medicare that they go "oh I guess this was a good idea."

General public is uneducated. I believe most people support the idea once it is explained to them, but without any sort of information other than repubs bashing Obama they generally dislike it. "It's my money they're taking"

Unfortunately, the once in a generation opportunity to advance toward a civilized Health Care Delivery system was thrown away.
We will have to live with For Profit Health Insurance Corporations as the Gate Keepers to Health Care for a LONG time.

I support quality Universal (FREE) Public Education to Doctorate levels for anyone
who wants it, and can maintain a passing average.
Two to five years in Public Service after graduation would be the only requirement.

We ALL benefit from an educated society.

if ever there was a time to advance the issue it was now with all the boomers moving to Medicare. Instead we're always a vote away from cutting Medicare payments to providers.

"Unfortunately, the once in a generation opportunity to advance toward a civilized Health Care Delivery system was thrown away."

I'm not so crazy as to believe this could have passed Congress now, what could have been done now was to advance the issue, instead SP advocates were pretty much blocked from any of the discussions, right from the beginning with the WH healthcare summit in March 2009. The Repubs did not control the agenda.
