A little here and a little there. It is all coming out, and it is just a matter of time. Like Watergate, but worse in many ways. But the drip, drip, drip and drip is exactly the same. Get a little here and a get a little there. This confirms that and so on. This one said that, and so on. Will it end the same way? No one knows, but actually in some ways, it looks worse than Watergate.

(38,420 posts)very carefully back then, Trump and Nixon had/have exactly the same attitude. And that attitude is simply, "I can get away with anything, anytime, and in any way."

(32,634 posts)The "I can get away with it" has been Chump's philosophy his ENTIRE LIFE. Nixon only evolved to it after he became President. It was a huge mistake for the country to let Nixon off the hook, because that's how we ended up with Chump.
There has been no accountability in the minds of the Repukes all these years since Nixon.

(81,220 posts)I remember reading suspicious comments during the Clinton persecution. They impeached him for lying about a blow job with a consenting adult. Someone back then stated payback for Nixon.

I think that when the entire story of this episode in Americas history is told...I will take years for us to close our collective mouths gaping in shock, wonderment, surprise, abject horror.
The Russian corruption runs deep. This may well change the way our government works. Which way it changes well just have to wait and see.

(38,420 posts)There are recording of Johnson saying that Nixon tried to interfere with negotiations between North Viet Nam, and the U.S. ... Nixon's attitude was, "I can get away with it" and Trump's is exactly the same. "No one will or can get me." The common trait is total arrogance. Just 2 words: total arrogance

(11,631 posts)And I still have no confidence in republicans in the senate to convict... but on the bright side some folks in battlegrounds like Collins and Ernst will be forced to tie Trump around their necks for all time like an anchor or finally jump ship.

I understand where you are coming from., but comparing the two almost whitewashes what is happening now.
Nixon wasn't involved in a blatant attempt to destroy american democracy, indeed western democracy.. he was just a crook, like any other...
Watergate was small potatoes compared to this treasonous bunch. Although, at that time, it seemed like the worst thing that could ever happen to a White House.

(14,490 posts)with international and domestic implications, and it's extremely difficult to investigate. Watergate was relatively simple and local.
I've felt for quite a while if anything good comes of this presidency, it's the exposure of the dark underbelly of the complex network of ultra-wealthy oligarchs around the globe that operate mostly out of sight and believe their wealth grants them immunity to most all laws. That's partially due to lack of enforceable international law or enforcement mechanisms.
They are largely responsible for the horrible global economic inequality that's the root cause of many of our current problems and every ray of light that shines on this web is a good thing for the public.
Thankfully, we now have internationally interconnected intelligence networks that are slowly exposing parts of this criminal web, such as with the Panama Papers, 1MDB scandal, the Epstein affair and now Trump.

(5,106 posts)He just didn't care what he had to do behind the scenes as long as he didn't get busted. Yeah, he WAS a crook and always trying what to overcome what he regarded as a poorer start in life than many of his rivals. He wanted to prove his worth to the world in a way that was much more personal for him. My very first presidential vote was against Nixon. HOWEVER, Trump is an entirely different piece of work. He's a hustler and obviously prides himself on that. He was born with money, but always wants more...or, more accurately, the illusion of having more. Cheating and "stiffing" others are a point of pride for him. No use to go on about him any further to prove that he's a VERY SICK individual, who likes to BULLY to get his "name in lights." His lack of reading or general knowledge shows how lazy he really is, except for self-promotion. He likes making sucker of others who lack what he perceives as his superior"talents" Who needs it if you're the richest, most powerful man in the world? He's smarter than anyone he can "get over" on and that's what's most important for him.

(18,122 posts)"I looked on my shelf for the Senate Watergate Committee report, I looked at the Iran Contra report. I also looked at the Ken Starr report, Dean told Jake Tapper on CNNs The Lead.
This report from the special counsel is more damning than all those reports about a president, he added. This is really a devastating report.

(5,275 posts)Nixon was rotten to the core, a twisted mind, but he was minor league compared to the Orange Creep now, who is acting more and more like a lunatic dictator. Telling underlings to break the law and he will pardon them. Says he can pardon himself, going full on crooked madman.
We are teetering on disaster folks. We must cream Trump in 2020 and take over the Senate. Then work on safeguards to this happening again anytime soon.
I dream of Trump in a matching Orange Jumpsuit.
