(24,338 posts)And there's some Republican Senate retirements as well. If it looks like your party is going to regain/maintain power, it's not likely that you'd want to leave just yet. Some of the retirements in the Senate seem to be for age/health reasons, of course, but the House retirements seem like the Republicans may not be very confident about winning back the House and are cashing out while they can.

(24,338 posts)I know that Lamar Alexander (R-TN) has been there for some time and is stepping down for unknown reasons (age?) and Johnny Isakson (R-GA) is stepping down due to health reasons. Georgia will actually now have both of its seats in contention in 2020, which gives us an unexpected pickup opportunity.
