Overtourism Calls For Creativity, Better Manners And Community Engagement

From Amsterdam to Venice and Barcelona, Peru and even Nepal, overtourism is a hot topic. Increasingly, local residents have been rebelling against visitors, and a subject that once was brushed aside is now getting the attention of leaders in tourism.

It's a big problem here in NYC. If you live in a neighborhood with tourist attractions, then your life will be hell.

AirBnB is a big driver of this problem. In essence, they're providing de-regulated hotel service which does lower prices without any consumer protections.

It’s one thing to rent a room. It’s quite another to by several residential properties and run them like a business. It inflates property values, making it difficult for buyers who want to actually live there.

at the Pike Place Market in Seattle.

When I buy fish for dinner, the fishmonger asks me where I'm from. Um... Seattle? They seem surprised.
