4. I don't think Newt really wants the presidency

Although it's possible, I suppose, that while he was the front-runner for about a week there, he might have gotten the silly idea that he had a chance at winning the presidency, I don't think Gingrich's run is anything more than a self-stroke for his ego. He never really put together the apparatus for a long run, like setting up campaign headquarters in as many states as possible, or getting serious about raising very large amounts of money.

His poor showing in Iowa has probably hurt his feelings, and like any three-year-old, the tantrum is brewing. He'll lash out at Romney for as long as people pay attention to him, but he'll likely be gone by MLK Day.
