Romney and Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) spent close to an hour meeting with first responders and local officials. Romney shook hands with National Guardsmen outside the U.S. Post Office and talked with a local resident, Jodie Chiarello, 42, who lost her home in Isaac's flooding.
"He just told me to, um, there's assistance out there," Chiarello said of her conversation with Romney. "He said, go home and call 211." That's a public service number offered in many states.

(23,998 posts)Aside from the obvious irony of directing the woman to seek government assistance, he tells her to go home? What home? If that doesn't qualify as a "let them eat cake" moment, I don't know what does.

(14,177 posts)give her money? LOL I am still trying to figure out what Mitt thinks he is doing down there. Looking at the damage, isn't really all that helpful. And he seems to have a bad back so it's not like he is going to be putting up sand bags. So, really what is he doing?

(39,961 posts)That some people's homes are completely under water? And that most of them are without power and phone lines? Hell we have issues with cell phone service, too. Our area isn't too bad because we were east of Isaac, but things were hardly great here - we didn't have power for two days.
