It will come out that he was part of this Ukrainian conspiracy and will either be forced to resign or impeached. The question is will trump be forced to resign or impeached first. A deal Could be made to appoint a caretaker republican president who would promise not to run in 2020. This would reduce the chance of a civil war or violence from the right.

Or, really, even if he isn’t. Pence hitched his wagon to a vehicle that’s going over a cliff. The only way to get unhitched would be to disown Trump, and he lacks the intestinal fortitude for that.

He would either have to resign on his own accord, be impeached or Trump decides to not run with him again in 2020 and therefore he doesn't win reelection - but he would only be replaced upon the start of Trump's second term with a new VP.

That he's about to throw Pence's ass under the bus. So, unless he wants Nancy Pelosi to
be president he better resign right now. Then it would be awesome if Trump selected Jeb Bush
to be his new VP. because the only people Trump's base hates more than the Clintons are the Bush's.
Mitt Romney would be a close second. I can only imagine the whiplash Trumps base would get
trying to change directions that fast. The butt hurt would be crippling.

First, as others have noted, Pence would have to resign, be impeached, die from a heart attack. etc. Then, Trump's choice would have to confirmed by both houses of Congress after all the Democratic representatives became extremely drunk.

After that there is the 1967 federal nepotism law that states, "A public official may not appoint, employ, promote, advance, or advocate for appointment, employment, promotion, or advancement, in or to a civilian position in the agency in which he is serving or over which he exercises jurisdiction or control any individual who is a relative of the public official."

This law was written after JFK appointed his brother, Robert, to the Attorney General position. The courts have not made a decision as to whether the word "agency" applies to the VP.

Trump can replace him as "running mate" at the convention or before the primaries, but Pence would still be VP until Jan 2020.
And theoretically he could still put his name in as VP at the convention, I think. His name will presumably also be on the primary ballots in those states that still have a GOP primary.

Pence is such a lackey, however... maybe if Trump said, "Resign," he'd do so. But then a new VP nominee would have to be named, and go before (I think) both houses of Congress and get approved, and that won't happen quickly. And I doubt they'd ever approve one of T's kids. There's also some rule about two citizens of the same state... it's legal to have 2 NYers on the ballot, but there's some big penalty, like you can't get the electoral votes. (They wouldn't get NY's anyway.)

(I wonder if those state GOPs that dropped their primaries are kicking themselves now that Trump's in trouble.)

Amendment XII

"The electors shall meet in their respective states and vote by ballot for President and Vice-President, one of whom, at least, shall not be an inhabitant of the same state with themselves".

Which means the president and vice president can not come from the same state. This was a problem in 2000 when W. chose cheney as his VP as they were both residents of Texas. Cheney moved his voter registration from Texas to Wyoming, his home state, and was allowed to stay on the ticket.
