We are currently in a trade war with China.

It is costing both of our countries billions and no one thinks we aren't in a trade war with them. No one.

Trump just requested that a country he is admittedly in a trade war with, and views them as hostile toward us, to investigate one of his political rivals. In damn near the same breath he reminded them about negotiations with them in DC next week.

Can I please use the word treason now?

china is still a massive trade partner with the u.s.

we're having an escalating argument about how taxes and tariffs should work, and it's having an economic impact on both countries, but that is a very, very far thing from an actual military war.

the term "treason" is very specific.

i much prefer the term "traitorous", because he's certainly betraying america. that term doesn't have any specifically military connotation.

But if you think a trade war is an actual war as defined by the Constitution then what should be our relations with China? Should we have any at all? Should we kick out their ambassador? Should we attack them militarily?
