Meghan McCain: the world will see America

as an unreliable ally.

Bullshit. Intelligent people out there will see this as a jackass move by the biggest jackass ever to stink up the Oval Office. America is just as reliable as ever, and should not get the blame for what this PoS and his asshole minions in Congress do.

Okay, rant over.

How many allies has he already betrayed. He is still President with no evidence that won't change until Jan. 2021 and there is a strong likelihood that he will be reelected.

If not him the electoral system is set up for someone like him or worse to get elected next time.

to the rest of the world. As long as he's running things he'll make other countries think America is unreliable because he is unreliable. And America elected him, legitimately or otherwise. The United States is an unreliable actor as long as Trump is its president.

But America is not reliable as long as Trump is in the White House and he has the total support of the Republican party and his base!

America deserves the blame, it was Americans who voted him into office and it's Americans who continue to support him...it's kind of like standing next to someone who gets hit with a water balloon, you weren't the intended target, but you got wet just the same!!!

American isn't as reliable even when Trump is gone. Why? Because countries won't know if another corrupt authorization is around the corner.

It's not just Trump that is damaging our reputation; it's the Republicans in Congress that won't check him.

We put him in power. His Presidency will have long-term consequences.

Even if a Dem wins in 2020, countries will no doubt be hesitant to work with us because they have no idea who the next President will be.

Our credibility is shot for a generation. Even if sanity is returned with the 2020 elections, the world will know that 40% of the American public are crazy loons hellbent on world destruction. The world knows that the US is a weak Democracy at best and even if a Dem takes power in 2020, they'll know in 4 years the far right could steal another election.

It took us a very long time to deal with Germany again. The fact that this monster was voted in and supported by a party will make us be deemed untrustworthy for years to come.

I hope those fools on the right are happy. It’s going to bite them too.

is going to distinguish our acts as a country from our President. It is a package deal. You don't get an excuse for having this kind of person at the helm of the ship since we all go down together when it sinks.

I agree with the distinction you are making, but what we are, as a country, is what we do. Right now, our reliability as an ally is at stake, our diplomacy in general is at stake, the ideology of terrorism is being stoked, Putin may get access to vast oil reserves in Syria, the Kurds are facing slaughter.

I mean, that's America making a real big mess that has the potential for being a flash-point, which is why you use detente and diplomacy and caution in the first place. Why wouldn't they resent America for that over there?

Americans elected this idiot.

American government is being run by representatives of the industries they regulate.

The department of justice acts as trump’s personal lawyer.

American foreign policy is being run for the political and financial benefit of the president

Congress has so far been unable to stop all that in any meaningful way. Impeachment has gained ground but the senate is still a steep climb

And trumps support remains in the 40 percent range.

It’s not just trump. It’s the participation of virtually every remaining republican and the inability for the rest of the country to do anything about it so far.

8 years after the disastrous Bush 2 administration america elected an even worse idiot.

It will take drastic changes in our politics and decades before anyone should believe we won’t follow up trump with an even worse disaster.

I believe that our allies know that the unreliability comes from Trump, but as president he represents American foreign policy. As long as he is president than America is an unreliable ally. That much is true.

The destruction of the international framework by Putin and his allies, most notably Trump and Johnson, may take decades to recover from. As we slide into the catastrophic climate crisis, a sane and determined international response is appearing increasingly unlikely. Instead it is the bully boys, Johnson in the UK, Trump here, Putin in Russia, and the lesser clowns around the world, who are in charge, and who will respond erratically and irrationally, increasing the damage and plunging civilization into a crisis mode not seen since world war 2.

and one it has been unable to remove.

There is no guarantee the world can see that America won't do that again. We're not as reliable as ever - the system that put him in place is still in operation. It has worked tolerably well in the past (even when I haven't liked the election results), but the world now knows how easy it is for a dictator to take over - and how ill-equipped our current system is to deal with it.

McCain is correct - the fact that I agree with her on little else does not change her accuracy on this point.

has elected 2 dumbasses who were terrible leaders in Bush/Trump that impacted the world negatively. Barack was able to bring back goodwill and reliability back briefly but Trump has thrown all that away. The problem is the world see us more now as a country that has a tendency to elect bat shit crazy right wing authoritarian figures. Sure a democrat could win in '20 but the world would just view a Dem presidency as a temporary time out from the craziness the US brings knowing that eventually a republican will comeback in to cause more destruction.
