South Korea mourns untimely death of K-pop star Sulli

On Monday, police announced that Sulli, a former member of the South Korean girl group f(x), had died at her home. The star's manager had gone to the residence in Seongnam, just south of the capital, Seoul, after the 25-year-old stopped answering phone calls for several hours.

"The investigation is ongoing, and we won't make presumptions about the cause of death," said Kim Seong-tae, an official from the Sujeong district police department in Seongnam, who added that security camera footage at Sulli's home showed no signs of an intrusion.

It’s amazing. I feel for those kids. They’re utterly freaked out. Poor girl.

I don't know why people would want to cyberbully an actress/musician.

They work those kids to death with little financial payoff unless they debut and make it big which is unlikely. They start them young too often around 14. It's a weird and freaky life for many of these "idols" who are under constant criticism and scrutiny from their minders and fans. They really have no lives outside their agencies clutches. Jonghyun (another famous Korean artist) died last year and there are many many rumors of depression and anxiety among those artists who are followed in the media. Sulli was bullied and routinely criticized for her feminism and outspoken nature. The fans and anti fans in K world can be a rough crowd, which is only compounded by an industry that works them to death and tosses them aside.

I am a K drama addict and follow some K pop. There is so much beauty and creativity there but the underbelly is just horrific.

if/when and who they are allowed to date, and what they can eat.

It sounds horrible.

If they are seen in the unexplained company of a member of the opposite sex it's called a scandal. If they have romantic encounters it has to be in deep secrecy and since in the early stages of their careers they live in agency dorms it's almost impossible. Many agencies don't even permit personal cell phones. The pressure to meet a beauty standard leads too many of these gorgeous kids to undergo plastic surgery to conform to unrealistic standards.
