Obama Deputy Campaign Manager: U.S. ‘Absolutely’ Better Off Today Than Four Years Ago

President Obama's deputy campaign manager Stephanie Cutter said on Monday the U.S. is "absolutely" better off today than it was four years ago.

"By any measure, the country has moved forward over the last four years," Cutter told NBC's Today. "It might not be as fast as some people would have hoped. The president agrees with that; he knows we need to do more."

2. Obama surrogates need to remind folks of the 2008 Crash.

The Obama talkers and ads need to paint a stark picture in very visceral terms of how scary and stressful it was in 2008...

-- To witness jobs disappearing by the hundred-thousands
-- To watch Wall Street slide into the crater
-- To worry helplessly as their 401(k) plan was shrinking by half
-- To expect iconic American car makers teetering on the precipice to go away for good.
-- To continually wonder how much worse it would be next month than this month.

The work isn't done, but now we have stability and relative security in the current economy vs. Four years ago, when we very well could have had another Depression, if not for the actions of Pres. Obama.

Certainly, things are improving much too slowly (it would be faster if the President's American Jobs Act had passed!), but now we're crawling out of the crater, not falling into it, as in 2008, when we had no clue how far until we hit bottom.

3. The US economy is growing faster than Europe, rest of the world

Compared to the rest of the world, our economy is much better off. Certainly not where we want or need it to be, but doing better against the only true barometer we have.

I often read Irish newspapers, and in recent years their young people have been emigrating for work at a pace unmatched since the potato famine. And where do most of them go? America, of course. Compared to Ireland and other European countries, America is still the Land of Opportunity.
