Three Nursing Home Workers Were Arrested For Allegedly Running A Fight Club Of Dementia Patients

Three workers at a North Carolina assisted living home have been arrested following allegations that they were running a fight club-style operation made up of elderly dementia patients.

Tonacia Yvonne Tyson, 20, Taneshia Deshawn Jordan, 26, and Marilyn Latish McKey, 32, were arrested on assault charges earlier this month, a spokesperson for the Winston-Salem Police Department told BuzzFeed News.

The elder care facility, called Danby House, specializes in caring for Alzheimer's patients, according to their website.

Police said the three Danby House employees were allegedly encouraging the residents to physically fight each other. In at least one case, one of the employees allegedly assaulted a resident by shoving them.

The workers also allegedly filmed the fights and egged the residents on, police told BuzzFeed News.

In video footage of the fight between the two residents, one of the elderly women can be seen falling on a bed and yelling “let go, help me, help me, let go" as the other woman in the fight continues to hit her, according to the Winston-Salem Journal.

One or more of the workers can reportedly be heard saying “punch her in the face" and “stop screaming, (expletive)" in the video. Another reportedly asked if someone was filming the fight and if the video could be sent to her.

One of the elderly women reportedly choked the other, causing one of the workers to say “you’re making her turn red." The workers allegedly did not intervene.

In an interview with police, one of the arrested women reportedly said the woman who was pushed and choked in the fight was a “pain the butt" and that's why they filmed it.

Am I defending the behavior? No. But this is what happens when a job this important is treated as unskilled, minimum-wage, thankless work.

you're not going to get the best and the brightest. It's systemic failure.

do even think something like that up, let alone act on it. My mother is in a locked dementia ward, and I feel utter rage just imagining something like this happening to her. I become "Karen who wants to see the manager" if I think they're not changing her sheets often enough. These people? I'd go to jail, because, I would not be able to stop myself from coming after the sub-human pieces of shit who subjected my mother to something like this. I would haunt their nightmares, stalk their families, sue everyfuckingbody involved. I would stalk their kids at their busstop. It would be my life's mission to ruin theirs. AFTER they got out of jail.

This breaks my heart, to know that those poor, helpless people who are incapable of defending themselves, or even understand what's happening, have been subjected to this kind of humiliation, pain, fear...I'm actually crying thinking about this. What has become of humanity? Oh I have to go book a flight to go see my mom now. I just can't even....

Some people should just be fucking executed right on the spot and be done with it. JFC, this is going to ruin my mood for the next week.

I can see my former residents with their frail bodies and paper-thin skin and oh so precious faces going through this and it rips my heart out

There's no words, no words

Except throw the book at these motherfuckers and anyone else who knew about it and kept quiet

ETA: "no injuries" my ass! I bet the victims had skin tears that were just brushed under the rug and blamed on something else! Just putting gentle force the wrong way can make a whole patch of skin slide off!
