Why are Congressional Reps still supporting him?

There was something online a week or two ago about why the base continues to hang in there, and the explanation was along the lines of these people refusing to acknowledge making a mistake. I've known people like that, and they're not necessarily bad people, they just seem to have such a low opinion of themselves, or a heavy dose of insecurity, that they put up this shield that makes them unable to see themselves. A friend (who's a shrink) referred to it as a blind spot.

With politicians, it makes sense. They need to appear strong, both to their colleages and to the people who elected them, so admitting a mistake (or changing their mind) is deadly when it comes to the next election. And they want to get re-elected. So they huddle in there and support each other and hope like hell their constituents don't notice. They know the party will give them a security blanket, which is probably why they prefer their party over their country.

No amount of damaging information will effect the trump base and the trump base is significant portion of the republican voters, perhaps as much as 60-70%.

If you look at that from a politico point of view, with the amount of voters who could care less what trump has done, is doing and will do, you will be out of a job the next election 100% guaranteed if you go against trump on almost anything. You will be primaried and you will lose. The plus side, the GOP candidate that wins will even be more hardcore rightwing and th tcan make MANY house and senate races winnable by democrats all over the country

People have get it thru their heads that NO amount of disgust WILL have an effect on the trump base, ever.

behavior it would take to change their minds. And as long as the base supports him, I can't imagine what it would take for Trump to change his behavior.

They have no integrity, no honor, nor ethical morality. Their only idea is me me me me me.

They could decide to leave Congress and get a real jon, but that would mean actual work.

For the leadership like McConnell, Graham, McCarty, et al, backing Trump is the only way to stay out of jail.

As for the rank and file, they either:

1) Believe their own lies.

2) Fear the leadership who can see them primaried.

3) Fear the heavily-armed, utterly deranged Trumpites in their constituency who can see them dead.

4) Just want to see the world burn.
