A horrid feudalistic quagmire with a flank of nationalist bollocks.

The vapid response from Trump supporters and the republicans to the illegal actions of Trump in the last week alone tell us something very interesting about the serf mentality of his most ardent fans, desperate to cling onto the ‘strong man’ lord in their lives. It is very like Russia if you think about it. They have always looked to a 'strong father' of the nation since the days of the Tsars, it is why democracy has never really taken off particularly well over there. They are so used to being told what to do and to never question the leadership that it is ingrained in the nations psyche... hhhhmmmm.

The thing about the fascist and authoritarian strongmen models is that they really love the feudal system, and they use the stupid saps that are their most ardent fans to reinforce the idea that the leader cannot break the law because he is above law. You cannot question the leader; the leader is always right. All hail the leader.

Those that pull the levers of power, encourage this cult like devotion because it fits their ends. What they want is a system based entirely on privilege, their privilege of course. It is evident in the way they defend Trump's repeated and blatant criminal acts. They are trying to sell the shtick that those crimes don’t count because he is the supreme leader. They want to enforce a cultural shift in the nation, that the law does not apply equally, that rather than being a nation of laws and equality, if certain ‘types’ do wrong this does not matter one jot as they are the Lords of the Land, the King, The Emperor or the power behind the throne. The law does not apply to the ruling elite. It only applies to the commoner dontcha know.

So terribly feudal.

2. I have been theorizing about what has been happening the last few decades...

and the reversion to a feudalistic form of society, world wide, seems like a good model for what is developing.

The fiefdoms are more virtual than geographical, but it seems we are developing a new class of power brokers, not necessarily beholden to any actual nation, while exploiting the nationalism of the masses to their advantage.

It's the age old nexus of power and money, which has been going on since they invented money.

6. You raise a vital point

The levers of power truly are without borders these days. Our national leaders may enjoy the perks of being the chosen ones right now...but the feudal lords are those behind these thrones... and they care not one jot about borders, they use nationalism as a means to an end, rather than it being their abiding philosophy

9. Unless we can slow down the flow of money with no oversight...

it will continue. Real estate and art are being used to launder money all around the world.

10. Art for laundering money

I'm an artist and so glad I never made it big because I don't want what I make to launder money for a rich monster.

Just curious.

I've worn the kilt myself - Clan Douglas - always an adventure, especially on windy days.

13. The people in Russia are protesting, even while they see their opposition leaders killed.

That takes guts, and desperation. It is never just one aspect. Yes there are Russians who support Putin, and there are some who support him out of fear-Stockholm syndrome. Look what he does to those that oppose him. Some of the same social dynamics are also at play-men, who do not want a level playing playing field, do not want to see their assumptive sexist, misogynistic, racist, homophobic "rights" challenged. Putin plays to that. Now he has thrown Christianity into the mix-cause nothing says suppression like religion-sexist, anti-choice, god given, etc...The same issues that are put into play here.

Feudalism does resemble capitalism, and a class based society is what feudalism was based on. Just exchange money for titles. But really-it all comes down to power-across all sectors, who benefits. The knuckle-draggers think they benefit from his supremacy, he speaks their fear and hate. It does resemble the swill the serfs were told-if the kingdom does well, we all benefit.

14. A lot of his supporters also support brutal dictators

like Erdogan and Assad and King Bone Saw. They associate brutality with strength and value that in a leader who breaks all the rules of human decency or laws to terminate his enemies with extreme prejudice.

They love the fact that Trump breaks laws with impunity and gloat at the fact he hasn't faced any consequences yet.
