Pierce: Donald Trump's Televised Cabinet Meeting Was Another Nutty Episode

Donald Trump's Televised Cabinet Meeting Was Another Nutty Episode
On the war on terror: "I’m the one who did the capturing. I’m the one who knows more about it than you people or fake pundits.”

BY CHARLES P. PIERCE
OCT 21, 2019

Does it even matter any more that, on Monday, El Caudillo del Mar-a-Lago had another televised nutty in the White House? Does it matter more that, in the course of his televised nutty, the president* expressed virulent contempt for the Constitution he swore to preserve, protect, and defend. I mean, I was sitting there when he did it. I had to sit through that awful Roger Corman film of an inaugural address. Did I do that for naught?

Anyway, on Monday, the president* unburdened himself of the following thought-like objects.

On the war on terror:

"I’m the one who did the capturing. I’m the one who knows more about it than you people or fake pundits.”

On the whistleblower:

“I happen to think there probably wasn’t an informant. You know, the informant went to the whistleblower, the whistleblower had, you know, second-and-third-hand information. So was there actually an informant? Maybe the informant was Schiff!”

And then, the piece de resistance, in which Alexander Hamilton and James Madison become operatives of The Deep State...

“You people with this phony emoluments clause.”

I know he burbled on about George Washington and Barack Obama and Netflix and how unprecedented it is that he's not taking a salary. (Herbert Hoover didn't, nor did JFK.) But I think I briefly went to another place when he said that thing about the Emoluments Clause. How about the Bill of Rights? How about the powers of Congress? How about the impeachment provisions? What other parts of the Constitution does he consider "phony"?

All of them, Katie.

A delusion of grandeur is the false belief in one's own superiority, greatness, or intelligence. People experiencing delusions of grandeur do not just

have high self-esteem; instead, they believe in their own greatness and importance even in the face of overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

emoluments clause is the fact that there was not one peep from all these high ranking poobahs of our government.
Doesn't one of them have enough sense to correct him on that outright lie? Or are they stupid enough to believe that that clause is "phony?"

when they feel their rights are in jeopardy. After all, they gotta have their guns and be able to spew their regressive hate filled bullshit. Their hero though is a man who doesn't care at all about the document he swore to protect. He might as well have had his fingers crossed behind his back. Trump cares nothing about this country, our legacy, our history. It is true that originally the rights we hold dear were only extended to white men while women and people of color were second class citizens if citizens at all. There is no denying this fact.

We have a long way to go to achieve full equal rights but when I am down I consider this... 230 years ago the founders and framers created a document that granted unprecedented rights that existed no where. Freedom of the press, freedom of speech, freedom of religion... freedom to speak out against the government. The right to a fair trial judged by peers.

Our country may be a mess but what was achieved is truly amazing. And so too must it be pointed out that our president is an abomination. He isn't worthy of the office. He isn't worthy to shine the shoes of our founders. If we did still have a monarchy, he wouldn't be worthy of the position "groom of the stool" (seriously, look that up if you aren't familiar).

Sigh, this country is so broken and we have a madman at the switch who half of congress seems to either love or ignore. It makes me so mad and hate what we have become. Not only am I ashamed of this country, I am ashamed that one day I will be an old white man. The root of all problems today.

... Emolument prohibition, the Founding Fathers were so serious about it that
they also included an Emolument prohibition in Art.1 Sec.9.

I have not researched the Constitution in depth, but a cursory review shows
that the Founders did not have the habit of repeating themselves.

The fact that they did concerning this matter speaks for itself.

Statement Regarding Barack Obama
The Law School has received many media requests about Barack Obama, especially about his status as "Senior Lecturer."

From 1992 until his election to the U.S. Senate in 2004, Barack Obama served as a professor in the Law School. He was a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996. He was a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004, during which time he taught three courses per year. Senior Lecturers are considered to be members of the Law School faculty and are regarded as professors, although not full-time or tenure-track. The title of Senior Lecturer is distinct from the title of Lecturer, which signifies adjunct status. Like Obama, each of the Law School's Senior Lecturers has high-demand careers in politics or public service, which prevent full-time teaching. Several times during his 12 years as a professor in the Law School, Obama was invited to join the faculty in a full-time tenure-track position, but he declined.
