is not supportive of Israel (being generous here, I've seen them say he's an enemy of Israel and worse). I don't get it. At all.

(34,360 posts)And he isn't as bellicose towards the Palestinians as his GOP predecessor. It's just another right wing lie.

(145,060 posts)I expect President Obama to get the same percentage of the Jewish vote this election as he got in 2008. The claim that he does not support Israel is simply without merit or foundation

(10,336 posts)posted out of the blue yesterday about running for president...the conversation that ensued allowed him to state that the President doesn't support Israel. That's one reason I asked. He happens to be quite high-profile, for FB, and runs a worldwide newsletter for a non-profit, so it's something quite out of the ordinary from his usual posts, which are normally never political...

(39 posts)Actually, I really have no idea. I don't understand the R mindset on pretty much anything including this.

(46,061 posts)We're not bombing Iran and Syria.
Obama didn't send in our military to prop up a failing dictator in Egypt b/c Israel could do business with him at least.
Obama had the temerity to have the goal of a Palestinian State alongside of Israel.
Obama had the goal of pre-1967 borders of Israel which requires settlers relinquishing their homes and investments and Israel relinquishing territory as its own along with cherished water and water rights.
That's why Obama is mischaracterized as "not supportive of Israel".

(10,336 posts)also believed in a Palestinian state (as do I), so I guess that's a real problem? That is pathetic if true. (Sorry if I am offending anyone. I don't mean to. But at some point, enough is enough with all of this)

(31,706 posts)I see several stereotypes at play here as I know a bunch of my Jewish friends who have have swallowed all this right wing bullshit. The bottom line is the Likudniks...Netenyahu, et al, are the far right wing of Israeli politics and have hijacked their political discourse similar to how the great unhinged teabaggers and fundies have in this country. Under Israel's fragmented parliamentary system smaller parties can and do make the most noise and this is having a big affect on US-Israeli relations.
The Likudniks loved the boooooshies and the fundies cause they are all in favor of their goal of driving all Palestinians from what they sall greater Judea & Samaria...that Jordan is the Palestinian state and through "revelation theology" that the existance of the State of Israel fulfills some conveluted prophecy. Add to that a latent racism among older Jews (especially against blacks) along with "philosophy" that's been manipulated so that you've developed right wing Jews who despise this President. It's maddening as it's all groupthink not based on facts.
If you want a doseage of what these people are told, listen to Michael Weiner's bilefest...that's where they get a lot of the lies about this President...
