"I don't think I've ever been as concerned for America. This is not just something gleaned from media, but from my heart. The Lord is grieved. The word says he is not "willing that any should perish". His return to the earth is soon, and he, above anyone else doesn't want America debased. The decision by the governments most high office to endorse and support homosexual marriage, under the deceptive cloud of human freedom, is grievous to the Lord. When authority supports and endorses something in such bold opposition to Gods plan, only evil will prevail. Please consider when you vote this fall which party supports Gods view of marriage."
I am just about speechless.
I can't help but wonder how he feels about Newt Gingrich's many divorces and marriages.

(4,340 posts)I mean, just think of ALL the things Jesus said about gay marriage as opposed to what he said about the poor.

(45,042 posts)married so many times, only because he finds the sacrament of marriage so holy that he has to do it, over and over and over. And God bless the Mormon church and their Bishop Mitt Romney because they are pointing us in the right path.
That would be my reply

(2,785 posts)Which party is closer to the core message of Christ. That is helping the poor, and the needy, and caring for the sick, and disabled, and not oppressing foreigners. Also the guy at the top of the republican ticket is not a christian. Who religion once practiced polygamy, and only stop because the government forced them to, and Mitt Romneys relatives fleed to Mexico to start a polygamist colony, and only returned to America, because of fear of revolution.

For I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me no drink,
a stranger and you gave me no welcome, naked and you gave me no clothing, ill and in prison, and you did not care for me.
Then they will answer and say, Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or ill or in prison, and not minister to your needs?
He will answer them, Amen, I say to you, what you did not do for one of these least ones, you did not do for me.
And these will go off to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.

(6,160 posts)I am upset that I cannot forcefully speak out on Facebook because it might endanger my job in this small town. I am upset because I really like this man and feel he is making a mistake by posting such things, but this is a very right wing area.
I am finding comfort in the postings here. I knew I could count on the good people of DU to shine the light on the idiocy of his post.
EDITED TO ADD THIS: My only course may be to unfriend him just so I don't see such postings. I suppose I could friend him again after the election.

(45,042 posts)yeah, I can't wrap my brain around it either. I've met her delightful young priest several time, anyway I have him on my FB as a friend. I posted a question to him the other day telling him that I am very confused and not sure what the right thing is but I really want to know if a Bishop in the Mormon church , Mitt Romney is the same as a Bishop in our Church and are the spiritual goals and path the same?
I haven't gotten a reply yet so I assume he is researching it.

(17,651 posts)I don't know you personally, just your previous posts, and you seem like a kind, gentle soul - just want to get that out.
If it were me, I'd have to drop a nice anonymous, typewritten letter into the tithing plate (mailbox, under the church door, in the donation box at the church) just to put him on notice.
That's just me though......
Tennessee Gal
(6,160 posts)That is a nice compliment.
I might consider an anonymous note. Thanks for the suggestion.
I am also considering posting a few scriptures myself about healing the sick, caring for the less fortunate, etc. Jesus taught compassion.
I am a Christian and a liberal! I think the two belong together.
Fortunately, he is not my minister. The church I attend does not take public political stands, nor does the minister. I prefer it that way.
My personal opinion is that the government should stay out of how our citizens live their private lives.

(82,383 posts)Why does he attribute his own feelings to the Lord?
Tennessee Gal
(6,160 posts)He posted a picture of George Washington and Obama with the following quotes:
George Washington: "Christianity and Morality are the pillars this country is built on. No man can claim to be a patriot if he tries to subvert these great pillars."
Obama: "We do not consider ourselves to be a Christian nation."
The caption underneath these pictures and quotes was this:
"Guess which one knows more about what this country is supposed to be."
I could not stand it any more so I looked up the Obama quote and posted this --
The entire Obama quote is this:
"One of the great strengths of the United States," the President said, "is ... we have a very large Christian population -- we do not consider ourselves a Christian nation or a Jewish nation or a Muslim nation. We consider ourselves a nation of citizens who are bound by ideals and a set of values."
The minister then commented:
"Sometimes I wonder where the Presidents values really are. If we are bound by a set of values where do those values come from ? Are they from the Muslim faith ? George Washington's statement was, "that Christianity was a pillar of the nation." When we remove, or chip away at a pillar the house can began to crumble and eventually fall. I truly don't believe when President Obama made this statement he was speaking for the majority, nor from correct history."
I then responded with this because I knew what he was getting at:
So, you think Obama is a Muslim?
No response yet. LOL!
