Woman Who Allegedly Climbed into Bronx Zoo's Lion Enclosure and Taunted Animal Is Arrested

A woman who allegedly entered the lion enclosure at the Bronx Zoo in New York City and posted video of herself has been arrested, police confirmed to PEOPLE.

Myah Autry, 30, was taken into custody by NYPD officers on Wednesday night at 11:00 p.m, police said.

She has been charged with two counts of criminal trespass.

The Bronx Zoo told PEOPLE in a statement last month that zoo staff members received a report that someone had climbed over the safety barrier at the African lion exhibit on Sept. 29.

“This action was a serious violation and unlawful trespass that could have resulted in serious injury or death,” the zoo’s statement said. “Barriers and rules are in place to keep both visitors, staff and animals safe. We have a zero tolerance policy on trespass and violation of barriers.”

Social media video of the incident appeared to show a woman standing just a few feet away from the lion dancing and waving at the animal, appearing to taunt it.

Glad to see that there will be consequences in this case.
That woman could have gotten those lions killed, through NO FAULT of their own!
Male lions defend their territory, and she invaded it. Thankfully, they were the smarter species in this situation and just looked at her with a justified "WTF?"

2. Very STOOOOPID. She could have got the lions killed! So I'm glad she wasn't either.

3. "Friends ... Fear for Her Mental Wellbeing."

We're all swamped these days with stories of society' duds and the evils too many are capable of. The effects on compassion, empathy and altruism across the nation are scary.

We have become a much meaner nation than we used to be, and we have to turn that around.

So let's all remember to wonder if, gee, maybe there's something wrong with people who do bizarre things. In this case, I think going straight to assumption is warranted.

“I REALLY HAVE NO FEAR OF NOTHING BREATHING.” “ANIMALS CAN FEEL LOVE JUST LIKE HUMANS.” “LITERALLY I HAVE THE SAME DIET AS A GIRAFFE.”

I'm wondering among other things if she wants to be diet for earthworms.

4. Good... Had that woman's actions led to the death of that lion I'd have been willing to come

to arrest her PERSONALLY. What a damned fool.
