A Romney supporter just told me this on Facebook.
Tony, at least Romney worked for what he has. Obama purchased a 35 million dollar house in Hawaii... who do you think paid for that??? The man has never worked, ran or owned a business in his life!!! Romney and I DID BUILD OURS!! Think, research and then react.
Did Glen Beck report this or something?
On Edit: This was my reply
Tammy, Obama is an author. His books have sold millions of copies. At least he didn't make money investing in this: www.nowpublic.com/health/mitt-romney-s-abortion-business-made-him-50m And Obama did not say you didn't build your business. He was talking about the things the country does that helps businesses to thrive such as infrastructure and an education system.

(30,439 posts)Counties record these transactions when they happen and make the information available to companies and people that want to acquire it. It's easy to find out who the buyer of a house is and how much it sold for.

Could they be buying this home in a blind trust or some other way?

At least your Romney supporter is keeping the Tampa tradition of lying alive and well. I wouldn't go repeating stuff like that as the subject of a thread before some fact-checking, though, and fact-checking and Romney supporters go together like vegans and Smith & Wollensky.

It's bullshit.

(16,402 posts)[font color="green" face="Verdana"]For a family vacation (I think the Christmas holidays and I think in his 1st or 2nd year of office), the Obamas leased a very expensive, very secure "villa" in Hawaii. I don't remember the details, but it might well have been in that estimated value range.
Betcha that's what's been warped into his "purchase."
Here you go. This one is from last year and it's on the market for $7.9 million, not $35 million: Obama 2011 vacation rental
Here's the 2008 rental (worth $9 million): Obama 2088 vacation rental

(130,861 posts)'You might not realize this, but this is actually not the first time someone in Chicago has helped the Obamas buy a house beyond their financial reach: convicted felon and Chicago machine political fixer Tony Rezko helped the Obamas assemble the funding for the home they currently own in Chicagos murder and robbery-prone neighborhood known as Hyde Park. Penny Pritzker is making aggressive use of the recent headlines about gunshots being fired and people killed just two blocks or so away from the Obamas Hyde Park home, with Pritzker saying, You dont want them moving back where theres gunfire, do you? DO YOU?.'
Sorry, idiot site. Rezko b.s. debunked, AND Hyde Park a GREAT combo and middle and upper Chicago neighborhood where they've got a home already, where I lived (years ago,) and where any reasonable city person would be happy to live.
Also, Pritzkers do a lot with their money, not all of which we'd all care for, but so what? And, as others have said, PrezO has done very well with his writing, and likely could continue to do so.

Romney made more money firing people and gutting companies of their assets than he would have saving them. UPDATE: Just found out that the asking price of the house they are looking at is most likely $35 million. Bobby Titcomb, the Hawaiian native who brings Obama fish and poi (thats code for weed and coke) to the White House is most likely involved in the purchase of the estate on Oahu that the Obamas will most likely be moving into in January.

(39,961 posts)And I'm a female white collar worker. I'd bet that I could architect and construct a house from start to finish before Romney could (my father has taught me a LOT about building, and we have worked side by side on a lot of projects). I'd bet that President Obama could, too, because he sees value in hard work. Romney only sees value in what he can steal from other people and then call it "hard work".

(19,458 posts)Frankly, you'd be hard pressed to find a home in Hawaii that would be suitable for 35 million, in that they'd rival Versaille.
Here are some of the most expensive homes on all islands of Hawaii. Even at 23 million, it's a place that they'd never live. http://www.hawaiilife.com/gallery/6003/
Beyond the fact that NO politician in history would do something so ham-handed as to put their home on the market and buy an "consolation" house for after they lose. Think about it...
