Gym Jordan could use some etiquette lessons from Lt. Col. Vindman.

(393 posts)Whenever the military is required to appear at the White House or Congress for meetings or to testify, it's required that they wear their dress attire. The episode I recall is when Sam asked somebody from the Navy about it and she told him it's required, hadn't he noticed before?
I just assume it was correct as whenever active military personnel appeared, they are always in dress attire. Retired military will wear civilian clothes - the example I recall is Oliver North.

(11,097 posts)It is now the ASU - Army Service Uniform. It is the only appropriate uniform under the circumstances.

(86,573 posts)I just recall when there were active duty personnel in the house, back then I was referred to as the dress uniform.
In the civilian services, the uniform I wore did have components of the uniform that are still referred to as "dress" uniform components, so I guess I was going by both for reference.

HE WORE THE ARMY SERVICE UNIFORM. Exactly what North wore, except for a different service.
So, you are 100% wrong.

(18,627 posts)It is the Service A uniform, not the dress blues.
At this time the army does not have an equivalent to the Marine uniform pictured.
The correct army uniform would be the blue ASU, which Lt Col Vindman wore

(4,461 posts)...I hate this shit. A Marine humps a 50 lb pack 100 miles and says I love this shit. A Ranger humps a 100 lb pack 200 miles and says Somebodys gonna pay for this shit. And an Air Force officer sits in his barracks and, when the cable goes out, says What the Hell is this shit?
Old saying my Navy dad use to tell me.

(3,622 posts)When I was considering enlisting I considered all 5 branches of service.
They were all in the same office so it was a pretty open discussion.
We all sat around bs' ing about all the various merits of each branch of the service.
Finally the Navy Recruiter asked me if I liked camping.
I told him I hated camping...
He told me...you might want to think about joining the Navy....the Army, Air force and Marines f***ing love camping.
The Coast Guard didn't have any openings at the time so my Navy enlistment was a done deal on the spot.

(4,461 posts)... told me that when he went in, there was a line for the Army and a line for the Navy. The 3 other guys with him all went Army - being Alabama southerners and not really excited about boats. My dad, though, said he figured that in the Navy he would always have a bed to sleep in instead of a hole in the ground.
That was dad. Practical in all things.

(68 posts)Go back in time when Oliver North, hardcore right-wing, NRA devotee, wore his dress uniform LONG after he was no longer serving, North's was a sham, it was a spectacle to the TV cameras, Vindman wore his military dress out of love and respect.
