Deval Patrick: ‘It Is Time For Democrats To Grow A Backbone’

In making the case for the re-election of President Barack Obama Tuesday night at the Democratic Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina, Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick called on Democrats to “grow a backbone.”

“We are Americans,” Patrick said to roaring applause, “We shape our own future”:

My message is this — it is time for Democrats to grow a backbone and stand up for what we believe. Quit waiting for pundits or polls or Super PACs to tell us who the next President or senator or congressman will be. We are Americans. We shape our own future.

Booker has an amazing speaking voice.. Patrick was passionate, the keynote made a good case for the President, and Michelle was everything Ann was trying to be. I give the night an A. With fewer third way-isms (should have mentioned poverty more and how some need a lot more than bootstraps), would have given it an A+. But a very good start to the convention.

It's not just having backbone. It's going on offense, too. For once, we're making the Republicans play defense.

that speech sent a shiver up mine. I thought he was the best speaker of the night, even perhaps edging out Michelle by a hair. He was absolutely inspirational.
