Anyone want to join me in supporting Tammy Duckworth's campaign?

After last night's speech and reading more about her this morning, I've realized she is my kind of candidate! Usually I give of myself by volunteering on a candidate's campaign but I think she'll need the money more (and I live way on the east coast!).

I knew of her in general terms and was disgusted with what I read about her challenger and how they treated her in '06, but this article adds a layer of information about her that really has opened my eyes. She is exactly how I'd like candidates to be.

The need:

Although the 8th District leans blue, money could be a key factor against Duckworth. As of July, corporate campaign donations to Walsh—a venture capitalist and former policy director for the conservative Heartland Institute—eclipsed donations to Duckworth by a 14-1 margin. Walsh got a third of his money from PACs; his top donors include defense contractors, corporate lobbyists, and hedge funders. Nearly 90 percent of Duckworth's donations came from individuals. In one effort to counter Walsh's war chest, Duckworth boosted her funds with a July benefit concert by "the real Joe Walsh"—the Eagles singer—who is represented by the talent agency run by Rahm's brother Ari Emanuel.

Perhaps after St. Louis she'll be headed for Washington. "Her heart is in public service," says Durbin, the party's second in command in the Senate. "And when she walks onto that House floor, as a disabled woman veteran, speaking for a lot of Americans who aren't well-enough represented, it will be a spectacular moment."

There is another DUer who is a huge fan -- like me -- of Tammy's. He has pledged matching funds for donations. This would be a very good thing because this is a very winnable race and a +1 for Dems in the House.

On top of that, it is Tammy fucking Duckworth, one the most amazing people I've ever heard of.

She deserves to go to Congress and wherever she wants. She is as sharp as a tack. She's a freaking Lt. Col. -- I wonder whether her Maj husband salutes her.

A most amazing person.
