In one month, we'll be in the Twenties all over again...

...and I wonder what it will bring. The 1820s were maybe the most forgotten era in American history, just a gray blur to most people. I'm a student of American history, and not much is coming to me as I sit here thinking about it--the Monroe Doctrine, the disputed election of 1824, the Erie Canal, maybe a few other things if I concentrate. The 1920s, of course, are perhaps the most well-known, flamboyant time in our history. I could fill a book with the things I know about *that* decade. Now we're about to embark on the Twenties all over again, and it'll be strange to think of that term--"the Twenties"--and *not* automatically think of flappers, Babe Ruth, bathtub gin, and "normalcy". My only hope is that it's as dull as the 1820s, and not as fascinating as the 1920s. I'm sick of Interesting Times...

If I had to guess, I’d bet it’ll be more like the 1930’s than the 1920’s.

...decades, centuries, millennia--they're all arbitrary, but we think of them as "real" even so. It's 2019 according to the Christian calendar, now called the Common Era...and other dates, for other calendars. (I wondered often, as a kid, why we had positive dates--"AD"--and negative ones--"BC". It still seems strange sometimes.) They seem to have a potency of their own, even if on some level, it's irrational.

I'd rather have the Howling 20s - when we throw The Orange One in prison - boy-oh-boy will he howl!

Since you're a student of history, you should know the next few years wont be categorized till most of us are dead and buried. Try to live life in the present and stop trying to occupy space in someone's head who isn't born yet. Exhale, look around, and find things that give you joy. Every era has had their 'interesting times'. We are no more special than any other group that has walked this earth.
