(51,566 posts)It talks about her very serious kidney operation and how she and the Donald sleep in separate rooms. Daily Mail is trash and loves the tRumps (doesn't Murdoch own that rag?).

(15,365 posts)that Murdoch does NOT own. The Daily Mail is owned by Viscount Rothermere.
https://www.tutor2u.net/sociology/reference/who-owns-the-uk-media
Certainly, a very small number of corporations own the bulk of media companies. News UK (part of News International owned by Rupert Murdoch), the Daily Mail and General Trust (run by Viscount Rothermere) and Reach PLC (formerly Trinity Mirror, whose CEO is Simon Fox and who have now bought the Express) own over 70% of the newspaper market in the UK. Even regional newspapers are now owned by a small number of newspaper groups, rather than run locally and independently.
Other key players, outside newspapers, are Sky (controlling interest, 20thCentury Fox, part of News International owned by Rupert Murdoch although this many change as Disney are interested in the company), ITV (CEO Carolyn McCall) and Channel 5 (owned by US media giant, Viacom). There are also other important players in media production, such as Disney (who may soon own Fox) and online communication (such as Facebook and Youtube). Youtube is owned by Google.
There are also a couple of important public service organisations. By far the largest is the state broadcaster, the BBC. There is also Channel 4 which is also publicly owned, but there are regular discussions about privatising it.
While it is possible to overstate the power of these media moguls in the UK, after all newspaper sales have been falling rapidly for many years, and many more people get their news from the BBC, their dominance of the newspaper market is undeniable. ...

(4,787 posts)He's probably still there. She's likely using the master suite, since it has an adjoining dressing room. Both are on the second floor, but at opposite ends. (The bedrooms on the third floor are smaller.)
The White House Museum website has floor plans for the four floors. Most of the rooms on the plans have clickable hotpots which link to more info on how the rooms were used over time and historical photos through the years. It's pretty interesting.
This is the link for the second floor.

(58,785 posts)this very dangerous point we've come to is already forcing changes that will undo so much of the corruption the Republicans have instilled over the past 40 years. The bills McConnell is blocking are waiting.
Itm, maybe drive past the Capitol sometimes? This summer one of our grandsons literally bumped into Speaker Pelosi outside her office and got to meet her, no picture sadly.

(18,486 posts)Tell your grands not to worry about not having a photo. Choice between meeting the Speaker of the House with no photo and not meeting her at all - meeting her wins hands down. They have the memory and that's what really matters!
It's funny how often you run into people there, just as a matter of course. I remember walking on the grounds very early one morning and seeing an old man in a baggy coat playing fetch with his dogs on the grass. For some reason, he caught my eye and I stopped to watch for a few minutes. When he turned around, I saw it was Ted Kennedy.
A few years later, I stood almost on that very spot to pay tribute to him when his cortege came to the Capitol.
That's one of the things I love about DC. Another was to see the White House illuminated at night while driving along Constitution Avenue. Not now. That's gone. But, as you said, it will come back.

Agree entirely about the memories. It was a great tour, accompanying a kid whose grandmother's connected and had him bring a friend along, and I'm thrilled for him. The picture would be for my memories.

(18,486 posts)is that visiting it gives kids a chance to see the Members and the government up close and to begin to vision that they can get there from where they are. Not necessarily to become a politician, but to aspire to do whatever they want. When they see the same people they see on television and who they know are "big time," up close and accessible, it changes their perspectives about what they can do and where they can go. That always makes this idealistic dreamer happy ...
It also lets them feel connected to their government. I took my niece to the White House a few years ago and as we stood on Pennsylvania Avenue looking through the gates, she said, "You mean the President lives right here on the street and you can just walk up to his house?!" That really struck me because we just don't see that in every country where the presidents live behind walls. Of course, the White House and the President aren't really all that accessible, but even the appearance of openness and accessibility keeps our leaders connected to us.
I'm so ready to get my government and country back!

(58,785 posts)where he spent most of his time. Ivanka said as a teenager she had to arrange to proactively visit her father a few floors below to keep a relationship alive. And Melania had long arranged her life amap without him. Being available in new outfits when he wanted to show her off on social occasions was her favorite role, and apparently main one since other women were always available and it's hard to imagine her role as mother of his son was high on his priorities. No wonder she cried on election night.
