a knowledge of the law and a conscience.
Intellectually, he brought a butter knife to a gun fight.

(1,777 posts)In 1998 Turley was a environmental lawyer with no background in either constitutional or criminal law who somehow got himself a nice berth on the gravy train during the Clinton impeachment -- as the requisite sad sad lifelong Democrat with the integrity to say that Clinton had to go. Now he's the sad sad life-long Democrat with the integrity to say that Trump has to stay. He's always been a fraud.

(37,158 posts)Scare quotes because it's almost guaranteed that either he feels no embarrassment, or if there is a smidge, it's thoroughly salved by his tenured faculty position at a prestigious law school and money from media and speaking appearances.

We're seeing a stream of people who'd gotten away with it for so long that they no doubt never thought the national spotlight would turn and reveal them so starkly for what they are.
And it's not like we should find it hard to believe any more that profoundly dishonorable people can rise to high position in honorable environments. We need much better evaluations. General Kelly's gratuitous, totally pointess slandering of that innocent black FL congresswoman gives a clue to how he rose over strong competition.

(3,255 posts)There is a fortune to be made by guest appearances, speaking fees, paid publications if you are a fascist hack. If you are liberal or progressive you will be poor. Chris Hayes has talked and written about this quite a bit..

Is their law school really that much less of a law school than North Carolina, Harvard and Stanford?
Judging by today's testimony GWU should be less than happy.

did not pass his test of being fair is just smoke and mirrors.

(15,124 posts)House should do a lot more investigation, but only as all allowed by the courts; if can't prove "crime" (as he defines the term), you can't impeach.
Much more to it, but that gives you the flavor.

(13,091 posts)There is no evidence. (No mention that Trump is obstructing the Dems from obtaining evidence.)
Rambling sentences with facts omitted.
His interpretation of the Constitution finds Trump not guilty.
Giving his opinions not facts.
Thinks it should have to go through the courts. (He is best friends with Barr.)
Just a few of the things being said.

(2,992 posts)I'm in Academia - I see his type all the time. He may be somewhat more principled than others, but in essence, he likes to take the opposite view from common wisdom.
As I said in a previous post, he's a more intelligent version of Alan Dershowitz.
