Sports worship is the gladiator shows of the Roman Empire. Opiate for the masses so they'll be passionate about something other than our political or social system.

Go to any bar and I bet you 95% of the patrons there will be able to name the local team's starting quarterback, but 30% will be able to name their representative in Congress or even be able to tell you the basics of our system of government.

Nothing wrong with being a sports fan, but our culture has elevated it to a spot that displaces what really matters. The results are an economic system that preys on working people, and a political system that reflects fandom culture where the sides sound like fanatics rooting for their team to win and the other team to lose.
