The officer hasn't been named but was placed on administrative leave with pay.
The Los Angeles Police Department caught one of its officers appearing to molest a womans corpse on body-camera footage. The officer, who hasnt been named, turned off the device, but a two-minute buffer later captured the incident, according to the Los Angeles Times.
The unnamed officer allegedly fondled the dead womans breasts and has since been put on administrative leave with pay, pending a department investigation. But its unclear when the incident occurred, according to the New York Times. The Los Angeles Police Department conducts random reviews of body camera footage each month, and told KCBS that it discovered the incident during one of those inspections.
The officer, whos been described as a veteran of the force, apparently attempted to deactivate his body-worn camera during the alleged incident, but later turned the camera back on, which automatically starts recording two minutes before activation, according to the LA Times.
At the time the footage was taken, the officer and his partner were responding to a call at a residential unit about a possible death. Once they confirmed the woman was dead, one officer went to the patrol car to retrieve standard paperwork, while the other officer stayed with the body. Its at that point that he allegedly assaulted the dead woman.

(57,077 posts)made a statement about it? How do you know how guilty he is of anything? He hasn't even been charged with anything. Indictments usually come before the trial and hanging.
Can we wait to oil the rope until after the trial and a fair hearing?
You know, maybe some justice.
Maybe we've taken a psychopath off the streets. Maybe we don't know what happened yet.

I prefer paying a criminal temporarily if supports my right to due process.

(57,077 posts)we also have a presumption of innocence and except in certain crimes - ie. murder - or certain circumstances - ie. a danger of flight from a juristiction - we give bail and bond to the accused.
Giving criminals their Constitutional rights protects our rights.
Lastly, you and I do not know the exact content of that tape. We should not be so anxious to hang anyone before the process.
After all, we aren't RW Republicans, are we?

(57,077 posts)Even when caught with a smoking gun in his hand, a dying declaration from his victim with the whole event on tape, we still have a due process for the accused. But TV videos and a programing due process does not make.
When it is established within our justice system he's guilty, I hope he gets jail along with his loss of a career. I certainly wouldn't trust his ability to represent my first contact with the justice system after that abysmal exploitation of the dead.
What evil exactly is it he would not do??? That is, if he's guilty. I haven't seen the video so I don't know he's guilty, but it must have been pretty bad for the PD to have reacted so strongly. Usually PDs let bad cops stay on the force.

I have a book about Ed Gein that was written by the judge who presided over the trial. The last chapter was a collection of Ed Gein jokes that circulated at the time. A lot of humor is about taboo subjects. The response is a combination of nervous laughter and the laughter caused by the punchline.

<insert HUGE sarcasm emoji>
Seriously. Are we going to defend "humor" about sexual assault?
There is not a thing funny about sexual assault, and especially for those of us who haven't been sexually assaulted ourselves - we have no right to joke about it in a forum where there are victims of sexual assault who probably somehow miss the humor.
Want to tell the one about my dead mother?

While I was in the hospital 2 months ago, receiving a new kidney and pancreas, I changed it to: "I'm still athletic. On my right side, I'm a point guard and a jockey on the left."
There are plenty more where those came from. They're mostly improvised, so I haven't written them down.
And don't get me started about losing my sight 12 times over a 2-year period. (Retinopathy) At least the 3rd vitrectomy restored the left eye, but the right one's a goner. "Didn't see that coming."
Yes, I admit joking about sexual assault crosses the line, but I'd rather joke about stuff than take my life like my grandfather did. I'll do some self-editing before touching the keyboard from now on. I'm sorry for offending anyone.

Sexual assault is no proper source of humor for the rough and tumble never been sexually assaulted dudes you and I are.
We get to laugh at our own misfortunes and only when we are comfortable with it. We don't make sick jokes about other's misfortunes -specifically real victims of which you and I are not.
That joke about my dead mother was nowhere as funny the day we buried her as it would be today.

(8,755 posts)They must have some kind of 'pause' button or some way to command the camera to shut down for a period of time before starting up again. Its a weird feature, I can see legitimate reasons for it, like going to the bathroom, but there are other, simpler ways to deal with that, like leaving the camera in the car when nature calls.

(7,285 posts)It is recording, but not saving in a First in, first out (FIFO) buffer. Turning it on is just telling it to save the data instead of dumping the data. The idea her is pretty simple.... if a cop turns on the camera when a significant event occurs, it capture up to two minutes worth of data before that to give context or capture important data.
